Default (DIY question) Power connectors for guitar amps?

I'm looking to make a nice long and fancy power cable for an amp.

Does anyone know if you can buy the female part of a power cable as a connector, if so, where?

thanks! I'm sick of all the rigid and short cables. I think I'm going to make an 8 footer that looks real slick.

might also be called:
power inlet connector
female 3 pin kettle connector
3 pin female IEC connector

I don't mind looking ghetto, so cut them ends and splice some nice wiring in between and solder the wire tips together then old black insulation tape and happy jamming. Make it a 20 foot LOL

sweet.

I'm making something nice with cloth wrapped wire and ferrite beads. I'm not sure I'm gonna drop $70 but the $20 connector looks tempting. There goes my dream of making and selling them though, ha! Fancy cable + connectors + shipping = $61... and I still wanted to get ferrite beads, which would probably bring it to like $70 after shipping and etc.

Down in that paper there is a section on AC. You might be better off with a box in between than some beads on a wire.

heh. Why do I have a feeling I'm going to end up spending $150 on building my own cable?

That's why I posted you the first link to a hospital grade cable already made for $13

yeah. I want the cloth cable and a custom length. I also want it to be flexible. I have a bunch of the cheap black power cables that come with gear. I just don't like the functionality or aesthetics of them.

I did find a cheaper female end (less than 4 bucks):
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...4QlQY4Rs2qw3fc

And a fairly inexpensive male cable plug (less than 6 bucks):
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...fWUKn1%2fIE%3d

so probably $14 for connectors and $23 for 8 feet of cable ( http://www.etsy.com/listing/96211818...-lamp-cord-for ). The supplier of cable I found on etsy though so I'm going to keep scouting for a cheaper supplier.

Making a suppression box is a nice idea, but I wonder if most amps have it built in filter like this one: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...AU82W4PZmgcwBY

I may still make my cable with a box. I want it to be the power cable to end all power cables. I'll probably omit that portion if my friends want them though.

Lowes or Home Depot has a 10' +/- cable with only the male end terminated. It's unusually flexible. I have one sitting here to replace on an old amp when I get a chance.

You could cut the male end off too if you like. On your male connector don't go too cheap there. Some of those $4 to $6 jobs look ok but the insides are not very robust.

Where are you finding the cloth cover?

PartsExpress might also have everything you want with practical prices.

parts express only has $20 female ends and pretty expensive male ends. I think mouser is the ticket. I've found two places for cloth wrapped cable:

one
http://www.etsy.com/shop/bplighting?ref=seller_info

two
http://www.sundialwire.com/clothcoveredwire.aspx

that's good to keep in mind about lowes/home depot. I also want to make some 40' power strips by hacking up a power strip and extension cord.
