Default 1877: Crazy Horse's last battle with the US Cavalry

REAPER 1.877

- fixed mouse bug with vertical faders in plug-ins
- better support for large number of tracks on small screens in routing dialog
- added workaround for hangs during minimize with video items
better normalization peak detection
- small pngs (w less than 3) for button images will no longer be drawn
- fx chain: you can now set each effect to "offline" to unload it from RAM *
- fx chain: fixed keyboard shortcut displays on context menu

* works fine, but ctrl + alt + B doesn't make it happen.

Default Damn that's smart thinking!

Really pleased we now have a plug-in offline setting - cos I always like to "Apply FX" to turn MIDI parts into audio in final mixes, but want to keep the VSTis around in the chain just in case I need them again.

I do like the idea of the little "zzz" icon but since I do a lot of A-Bing of compression & EQ by toggling the checkbox I've found myself accidentally putting plugs offline a number of times already tonight.

Previously I was forever accidentally floating the plugin windows but unfortunately now I have to click & wait for it to come back online which is more of a hassle.

I'm not really sure the "click for one thing, double-click for another" feels very friendly/REAPER-style.

Maybe clicking the checkbox with a modifier could do the offline routine.. or alternatively a modifier could do a simple bypass toggle for those wanting to go quickly on & off?

Hope this sounds like lateral & practical thinking - I'd be interested to hear other opinions.

OT: is reaper install downloading slower now, or has roadrunner reduced my bandwidth. For the last couple of weeks, It has been taking about 20 times longer to down load.

thanks

roadrunner, and no downlad programs, just Firefox with no download extensions.

On topic, I just zzz jamstix, and reaper crashed. When i brought reaper back up, and tried again, it didn't crash on zzz, but did when I accidentally floated it, and then clicked on the X to Un-Float.

Also when messing with jamstix the Unload and disable in the FX\Edit menu did not work, but double click the check mark did work.

Good point.. I think I'll make ctrl+click checkbox do offline toggle, and have doubleclicking a checkbox count as two single clicks...

That'd be fantastic Justin - nice to be able to flick a plug on/off without worrying about doing it too fast!

Cheers for all the recent developments.. I finally sold my ProTools HD2 and didn't shed a tear. I also haven't touched Cubase for months - all thanks to REAPER's unstoppable rise!

Can I just ask one question (bear with me I am new to this!) what is the difference between offlining a plugin and clicking the fx off button on each individual track?

Cheers

clicking the fx off button bypasses the whole fx chain, but doesn't unload all the RAM that the fx have loaded (which can be huge for a sample library player, etc). Offlining the plugin frees up all the resources the plugin was using, and then when you online it again it has to re-initialize and reload its state.

Justin, do you think that you could add a ctrl click to the FX on/off icon on the TCP and MCP gui that would offline all the plugins in that chain?

AND! possibly a right click on that icon that would pop-out a context menu that would offer us the choice of offlining or onlining any FX from a list with all as one of the options? That would be uberkiller!

Also, I noticed better marker/tempo marker behaviour with this update... am i imagining that or did you fix some things?

That new offline feature is great for EZ Drummer, once I've rendered the audio I can keep EZ in the project but with the ram disabled...just in case I need to change something later.

Excellent move!

Thanks for the explanation. I thought thats what the FX off button did, DOH!

This will be very useful indeed.

Cheers
