Default using motif es with reaper

How do I set up my motif es to work multitimbraly with reaper?

I have the motif's local control off. It's set to midi, and is in song mode. Track 1 is going out on channel 1.

I have reaper set to midi input > usb uno midi in > channel 1.

it's record enabled with the little speaker thingy enabled... nothing, nada.

I can monitor and record audio fine, but as soon as I turn off local control on the motif... silence!!! and no midi data gets recorded.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Will reaper record midi data coming in like that? When you press the keys on the motif do you see any midi led activity in the level meter?

this thread is also related and may point you in the right direction:

Consult the link below for instructions on configuring MIDI ports.

Did you enable the channel? See the little checkbox in the second screenshot? It says "Send all MIDI Output to Channel"

I believe this where you tell Reaper to echo MIDI for your channel.

Otherwise, turn local back on in your Motif, as it doesn't hurt to echo locally if you're simply tracking. It is only when you wish to reroute MIDI that echo becomes an issue. For instance, if wanted to use a channel to play an installed PLG card.
