Default Reaper not taking audio from input it sees

I'm using Reaper, but for reasons I can't figure out, it is the only audio software that will not receive input from the Scarlett.

Audacity, online platforms, etc - all can and do receive audio from the 2i4 when "Scarlett" is selected as the input option, but in Reaper, its as if there are no mics connected. the software sees and allows me to select it as the input source, but no audio passes into it.

thoughts?

macOS / all software up to date

Default arm the track

create a track
click the red button to arm that track, now a few new buttons appear on the track.
Select the input channel with your signal, mono input 1 and on the left side is a grey box with the word out in it. select there Record input audio/midi.
Now you will see the signal ready for recording.

Thanks for the reply, but all of my settings are exactly as you spec'd.
Not sure where I have the setup wrong. Again, I get audio from this mic/mixer without issue in to things like Audacity, Skype and Cleanfeed... very odd.

Welcome to the Reaper forums!

Have you already checked if Reaper is enabled in the mic privacy settings of macOS? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209175
