It's all to do with the way I have to compile the PDF to make it acceptable to a wide range of LULU printers across the world. I have made this available as a "preview" because so many people have asked for this. This especially gives people who want a hard copy the chance to jump in early. I just have to ask you to be patient and live with these limitations until R4 is officially released.
When REAPER 4 is released, there will be a new version of the user guide (exactly the same content and layout) that will be indexed, bookmarked and fully searchable - and free - downloadable from the REAPER web site. Just replace the old one with that when it becomes available.

To show my appreciation (and because I just couldn't help myself) I have just bought the PDF edition of REAPER 4 Unleashed. And, although I have a hardcopy lying around here somewhere, I have also bought the PDF edition of ReaMix: Breaking the Barriers with REAPER. Thanks again, Geoffrey!

Nicholas, back in the 3.x.x days I purchased a hard copy of the REAPER manual. I have since been trying to go all digital using various devices and pdf reading software. Anyway, I would still like to
show some appreciation for all of your hard work you have put into such an amazing manual for 4.0.(since the pdf is free). Do you have a donate button somewhere that would allow myself and others to throw some green your way? If not, you should consider it... and thank you again for the time and work, it is very appreciated!

Thanks Chris: for others,it would be most helpful for me if people would be good enough to PM me with issues like this (so that I can collate and prioritise them more easily), rather than posting them to this thread. Thanks!

How about doing a series of video tutorials?
I would definitely invest in a comprehensive series of videos. Could you possibly do one?

You're more likely to see videos like that from Jonny Ginese and Kenny Goia.
Jonny's site is here: http://tutorialsforreaper.com/
Kenny's tutorials on v3 are available at http://groove3.com
And there are lots of videos on Youtune of course, as well as other sites. There will definitely be some about v4 in the near future.
Google for Reaper Tutorials and you'll find them.

Welcome Jay ... personally I also prefer hard copies myself ... you can scribble on them, highlight bits and take them anywhere. Welcome to REAPER and hope the guide is a good help!

Fantastic work...again!
Hi Geoffrey
A huge thanks for all you've done to get this incredible resource to us. Just got the Unleashed book from Lulu and paid for an upgrade to v4.
A great day for Reaper users!

BTW2:
3.28MIDI Recording Modes
"Record: input" is an option as well, giving you midi-lanes.

Thanks for the feeedback ... in fact if you read it in its context you will see that Record:input is indeed mentioned as a MIDI option!

I agree totally.
I have Reaper Power and the User Guide's spiral bound copy of for the previous Reaper 3. I bought them (quite expensive here in Japan) even knowing that Reaper 4 was coming and It worth every Ien.
Peace.

I can do all (after a fashion) that with a Kindle, and all of my technical and relaxation reading will fit in an airplane's seat-back pouch. I was a scoffer until I saw one in action - now I can't live without it. And, unlike a computer screen, I can read for hours without any eye fatigue. Truly an amazing invention.

Thank you Nicholas! It is truly generous of you to put in all this hard work and give it away for free or chump change. The 8 measly bucks I just spent on Unleashed is going to keep me busy for weeks. Hail to the king!

Interesting. At present I depend in part on the modest income I get from hard copy sales to be able to afford to keep on producing this. Let's see what happens ... if there is a serious drop off in the demand for hard copies because of kindle then at some time in the future we may have to reconsider whether the PDF can still be made available for free. But let's wait and see ... I'm talking about down the track here, not next week or next month!

For that matter you can read it on an Android tablet (or even phone) but I'm not sure (personally) that it's a substitute for the "real thing" either printed, or displayed on a decent size monitor.
I'm going to need a lot of hand holding with Reaper 4 as I've never tried the beta versions, so I shall almost certainly order the printed version of the manual, if not the tutorial manual. Great work (in terms of both the excellence of the job done, and the scale of it!)!

Totally agree. Except in my case it's an iPad. And that includes the scribbling.
On mine I currently have the following "Geoff" books:
Up and Running V3
Up and Running V4
ReaMix: Breaking the Barriers
Reaper Plus! ...SWS...
Reaper 4 Unleashed
G'day Geoff, you may remember me from the Sydney folk scene.
