EX DAW - BEFORE REAPER Cubase
MY FIRST VERSION - 1.9 I think
MY UPDATED VERSION - 3.151
LICENSE - NON-COM
OS - XP Pro SP3
HOW DID YOU LEARN ABOUT REAPER? - link from a forum
MAIN REASON FOR SWITCHING TO/USING REAPER ? - Cubase was crashing all the time for me, and after seeing the way the devs released fixes for bugs here, I switched.

COUNTRY - WHERE ? New Zealand
QUICK AUDIO BIO - Musician turned audio engineer. Guitarist mainly (in an electro-industrial/triphop thing, but play keys/samples in an industrial metal outfit. Do a lot of live recording for other bands, and have a few studio projects on the go for other bands.
ARE YOU A PRO? - semi-pro. I have a day job, but get paid for the work I do in the audio area.

EXT. SOUND EDITOR IF USED - none.
EFFECTS MOST USED - VST. Not much external hardware apart from synths.
SOUNDCARD/S - RME Fireface 800
REAPER PROCESSES - Live audio recording, Studio tracking, Mixing and Mastering.

USER INTERFACE - Love it. Sometimes get lost in menus though. (my fault now that we can customise these )
SOME COMMENTS - Love reaper, and love the speed of updates and responsiveness of the devs. It is really the best piece of software I've used in a long time.
SUGGESTIONS - its pretty solid as it is, and I get a decent amount done. Theres a few tweaks that would be nice, but nothing major for me.
SEND QUICK MESSAGE TO DEVELOPMENT TEAM - You guys rock. keep doing what you're doing.

Bumping this thread... Feeling this way now. Why not.

EX DAW - Started with Cubase SX3, then PT 7.4, updated to 8 before moving to Reason. For the story, I started with Computer Music with Cubasis VST. Lawl.
MY FIRST VERSION - 3.0
MY UPDATED VERSION - last one that got out, forgot which one.
LICENSE - Going to buy Non-Com on next payroll. Damn money.
OS - Vista x64
HOW DID YOU LEARN ABOUT REAPER? - Reviews, and digging by myself around DAW world.
MAIN REASON FOR SWITCHING TO/USING REAPER ? - First, being able to use something else than those M-Audio cards. They do great stuff but felt too "stuck" on PT, couldn't try new hardware unless using those M-Audio or digi stuff.

COUNTRY - WHERE ? Canada
QUICK AUDIO BIO - Musician/Audio Engineer.
ARE YOU A PRO? - Semi-pro, making some money on the side recording and mixing demos for local bands.

EXT. SOUND EDITOR IF USED - Wavelab
EFFECTS MOST USED - Waves Silver, Stillwell's. Addictive Drums 2 with Metal Foundry addon. Guitar Rig 4 for DI while tracking alone, and my Yamaha Motif ES7 for other sounds (feeling better tweaking with it than with those huge workstation-like plugins)
SOUNDCARD/S - Presonus Firestudio Project 10x10
REAPER PROCESSES - Record my band and some demos on the side.

USER INTERFACE - Great, feeling less cluttered than PT.
SOME COMMENTS - Only thing is that menus seems a little bit overflown.
SUGGESTIONS - Kind of "omni-tool" in pro-tools, and tape editing. Already voted.
SEND QUICK MESSAGE TO DEVELOPMENT TEAM - Great software for peanuts. Nice to see some work besides the "big names" that's worth it. Using Reaper as main DAW for some time now, feeling as comfortable than with PT for mixing now.

EX DAW - Atari Advanced Music System, Music Construction Set, Some Scoring Program for Old Macs, Cakewalk, FL Studio (technology's come a long way in 25 years)
MY FIRST VERSION - 3.4
MY UPDATED VERSION - not yet
LICENSE - Non-commercial, as soon as the tax return comes in.
OS - Windows 2000, MacOS X
HOW DID YOU LEARN ABOUT REAPER? - Heard about it on internet music forums.
MAIN REASON FOR SWITCHING TO/USING REAPER ? - (1) Mac compatibility, (2) Excellent price point, (3) Compatibility with other hardware (M-Audio Ozone) and software (Komplete, GPO), (4) Excellent latency response for recording guitar parts, (5) Great take management for comping together a decent live guitar part.

COUNTRY - WHERE ? Colorado, USA
QUICK AUDIO BIO - Musician, Hobbyist
ARE YOU A PRO? - No. May get around to releasing an album sometime, though.

EXT. SOUND EDITOR IF USED - Audacity for wav, possibly Rosegarden or Ardour for MIDI (if I can get them to work)
EFFECTS MOST USED - Guitar Rig, Kontact, Battery, GPO
SOUNDCARD/S - M-Audio Ozone
REAPER PROCESSES - ?

USER INTERFACE - Will take some retraining, but looks ok so far. Primary use for tracking guitar parts is handled extremely well. Routing diagram doesn't make sense to me yet. MIDI editing will take some getting used to.
SOME COMMENTS - Still figuring out where everything is.
SUGGESTIONS - Haven't found any limitations yet. Will keep looking.
SEND QUICK MESSAGE TO DEVELOPMENT TEAM - Great price point, love the "hobbyist" discount. Seems pretty solid so far. Keep it up!

I would also like either proper VCAs or group faders to be automated and affect their child processes (what an omission, useless to me without).
SEND QUICK MESSAGE TO DEVELOPMENT TEAM - Unique dedication for this class of software, I wish them tremendous success with their business model.

DAW Before REAPER: Pro Tools 7
First Version: - 2.1ish
Current - 3.71
License - Non-Com
OS - Windows 7
How Did You Learn About REAPER? - Harmony Central Forums
Reason For Switching? - More intuitive layout and workflow for me, no proprietary hardware, etc.

Country - United States
Audio Background - Playing music roughly since I could walk. Recording and playing shows since 13. Went to school at The Recording Conservatory of Austin. Now still playing out occasionally and recording/producing/etc. religiously.
Are You a Pro? - I make some money for the work I do, but I wouldn't classify myself as a pro.

Ext. Sound Editor: iZotope RX (rarely)
Effects Most Used: VST and Hardware.
Soundcard: ECHO AudioFire12
Reaper Processes: Pretty much everything but mastering (and even that in a pinch)
Manual: I refer to it occasionally for some less common tasks

User Interface: Fine before theming, more than adequate after theming, could be fantastic with a few FR's that have been proposed.
Some Comments - It would take something near-catastrophic for me to change DAWs at this point. Reaper has become a staple of my workflow.
Suggestions - The few things not already addressed are currently given high priority in the FR section. I'm content.
Quick Message - Thank you for all of your relentless hard work. Reaper is easily the best audio purchase I've ever made.

EX DAW - BEFORE REAPER: Pro Tools

MY FIRST VERSION - 3.52

LICENSE - Trial (will buy!)

OS - XPpro (custom built desktop)

HOW DID YOU LEARN ABOUT REAPER? - Pro Tools Forums

MAIN REASON FOR SWITCHING TO/USING REAPER ? Does what Pro Tools users dream of...plus ease of use, and themes are a plus

COUNTRY - USA

QUICK AUDIO BIO - Guitarist, pro instructor, semi pro performer

EFFECTS MOST USED - VST (Antress Modern plugs)

USER INTERFACE - Once you get a little used to it it's awesome

SOME COMMENTS - Using Reaper to mix first song for solo album! It's great. The themes customization may not seem like a big deal to many but it keeps the eyes focus and the mind fresh, unlike the forever silver and white PT...

SUGGESTIONS - maybe more midi features but can't complain

SEND QUICK MESSAGE TO DEVELOPMENT TEAM - Thank you thank you thank you!!! Have recommended many students to record weekly projects using Reaper as well...btw.....THANK YOU!

EX DAW - BEFORE REAPER - Still use Logic Pro, and Ableton but dumped Protools HD!
MY FIRST VERSION - 2.5???
MY UPDATED VERSION - Latest 3.72
LICENSE - Non-Com
OS - XP Professional, and Mac OS X 10.6.4
HOW DID YOU LEARN ABOUT REAPER? - Link
MAIN REASON FOR SWITCHING TO/USING REAPER ? - Small footprint, Brilliant DAW that did everything (and I have tried every DAW over 15 years!) Coming from Acid, Reaper was better, more stable, and Mac OSX!!!

COUNTRY - WHERE ? UK
QUICK AUDIO BIO - Composer/Engineer/Producer
ARE YOU A PRO? - Yes

EXT. SOUND EDITOR IF USED - SoundForge 8.0 (still can't give it up but Reaper is getting there!!)
EFFECTS MOST USED - Waves, Soundtoys, Reaplugs!
SOUNDCARD/S - Used with MOTU, Edirol UA-25 and Digidesign 96io - all flawlessly!!
REAPER PROCESSES - Record everything in Audio to it, use it to pitch, stretch, arrange, etc etc
MANUAL - No not read, but bought 'Reaper Power" book from Amazon

USER INTERFACE - Very comfortable, due to user interface and customisation
SOME COMMENTS - Love it!!!!
SUGGESTIONS - Built in Editor like Soundforge with editing on the file with fx etc, Area Selection, better MIDI? - Don't use the MIDI on Reaper as more used to Ableton
SEND QUICK MESSAGE TO DEVELOPMENT TEAM - Keep up the amazing work!!!!! Roll on Reaper 4! - If it encorporates an editor or editing and area selection on the timeline, plus 2-track editing, plus better MIDI then I can drop the PC (for Soundforge) and become a full Reaper Power User! Some things from Logic and especially Ableton (loop stuff basically) that I can't re-create in Reaper (yet)

EX DAW - BEFORE REAPER - I tried: Ableton, Sonar, Cubase
MY FIRST VERSION - (IE: 3.something)
MY UPDATED VERSION - (3.8?)
LICENSE - Non commercial
OS - win7 x64
HOW DID YOU LEARN ABOUT REAPER? - google
MAIN REASON FOR SWITCHING TO/USING REAPER ? - I hated abletons workflow and it was useless at recording live stuff, Cubase I didn't understand and Sonar was better but a bit clunky. I guess it's workflow and userfriendliness

COUNTRY - WHERE ? UK
QUICK AUDIO BIO - Long time guitarist/band member/dj 2 years (ish) with my own studio
ARE YOU A PRO? - Hobbyist

EXT. SOUND EDITOR IF USED - Audacity
EFFECTS MOST USED - VSTs, Pre-amps, Mic's
SOUNDCARD/S - EMU 1212m
REAPER PROCESSES - Recording live vocals/guitar, also make a lot of electronic music - heavy midi user, vsts, chopping up samples etc
MANUAL - I just used common sense but I do refer to the manual if I get stuck

USER INTERFACE - Yes, it's simple, easy to use and very powerful
SOME COMMENTS - I have my Keyboard shortcuts all worked out. I would have given up on recording (or not done as much) had I not found Reaper
SUGGESTIONS - Nothing springs to mind, I don't use all the current features!
SEND QUICK MESSAGE TO DEVELOPMENT TEAM - In my world you've written the most revolutionary audio software I've come across. It is key to what I create and I couldn't do as much with such ease without it.
