Default Reaper, Alesis VI49 and SQ8L vst

Trying to get these all together. This Alesis VI49 is actually my first dedicated midi keyboard so I spent the day learning to assign it's knobs and buttons. So I get how to do this to vsti's in reaper, touching a vsti's parameter, and doing the "learn" thing. But SQ8L is not co-operating. It does not detect any time I touch one of its parameters so I don't get to do the midi "learn". Any idea here? I tried reasynth (and things in Reason 10) and it worked perfectly so I'm at loss here.

Hey man sorry for the late response, unfortunately SQ8L doesn't expose its parameters for automation, there is a work around where you can automate the filter:
