Default Spectral Editing with Area Undo/Restore

Now that spectral waveforms are becoming a thing in REAPER, there is a chance to compete with RX5 for spectral editing. While I find RX5 to be very good software and I use it all the time to fix up audio blemishes by sending an item copy from REAPER over to RX5, a few things could be better with regards to RX5 and maybe some additions to REAPER can render RX5 useless and speed up workflow even more.

It would be great if in REAPER you could select an area and either attenuate that area, replace it with similar surrounding audio, and of course De-Click, De-Thump etc.

The biggest thing I think that RX5 standalone app is missing is the ability to highlight an area and restore that selection to it's original state.

Sometimes you fix an area only to realize you can either do it better or it's best left untouched. A way to do spectral editing like RX5 as well as revert a selected area back to the original state would be HUGE.

? RX5 has undo states, can you clarify with an example

Also I think it unlikely for Reaper to become RX5 quality - that's a big ask and in some ways trivialises what the RX5 designers do

Let's say you've made a few dozen edits to a file. Rather than dig through undo states and risk undoing something you want to keep...just a simple way to select an area and have it return to it's original state.

I certainly don't mean for REAPER to replace RX5 completely, but some basics like de-clicking and basic spectral repair would be nice to see someday.

aah - nice idea for an interface - would be complex to keep track of I suppose as the area you highlight might have had many things happen to it that also overlap with things done to other areas that are not highlighted.

But I can see highlighting and area and the software showing you what has been done to that area (or within that area) plus show any other areas affected.

Yeah, this was something that was easy to do with playlists in Pro Tools. You could always have the first playlist be the untouched audio. This way, if you want to start from square one in a section, you flip to that playlist and pop it into your current edit. You can kinda do this with REAPER now if you duplicate takes but it gets a little messy at times.
