Brainworx tmt consoles mono and stereo
Does anyone have an idea how this works in reaper? If I load the stereo version on a mono track then tiny variance will be created between each channel which is not ideal for bass sources. The channel can be changed to digital mode making it the same modelling on each track. But the strange part is that all my instances are stereo except for one which has loaded with a slightly different UI showing one channel a behaviour I can’t figure out how to replicate. But I only have only .dll and no idea how that happened . Very confused as in other daws people have mono and stereo versions , I don’t want to ask plugin alliance as last time I contacted about another subject they gave me quite a glib read the manual.

I should really keep this to copy/paste, as it's a common question!
On the plugin header, click on the 2/4 in / 2 out button, then click on the I/O button and pick "mono" from "request VST3 bus channel count"
Then close and reopen the I/O window and check both outputs:
I think you can save this as an fx chain or something, but I just do it once per project then drag and drop it to all mono channels (it will keep that configuration).

Could somehow clarify how to achieve this using the VST version (not VST3)? There is no 'request vst channel count' option on regular VST...

Shouldn't there be a request by the DAW to the plugin telling "hey, i have a mono source please be mono" ? interchanging of info between daw and plugin. If the plugin developers allows this on their code!

I don't think it's possible without using the VST3 version.

Duly noted, thanks. Luckily my main channelstrip (BX Focusrite SC) runs VST3 and seems to be doing so quite stably in Reaper.

Mono/stereo in VST3 plugins

This is only possible with DAWs that distinguish between mono and stereo tracks. Cubase has mono tracks, and I think ProTools and Digital Performer as well.
REAPER and many other DAWs use tracks that can hold any number of channels, but only in pairs of two. Mono information is handled as dual mono, i.e. the same signal on two tracks.
REAPER cannot know beforehand whether the signals on a two-channel track will be dual mono or true stereo. For this reason, it cannot select the ideal pin connector configuration when you insert a VST3 plugin.
In case of VST, automatic selection of mono/stereo is not possible anyway. For this reason, many VST plugins come in two versions. The user selects the mono or stereo version as required. But even in this case, you must still set the pin connectors properly.

I recently got the Focusrite version. I put it on a mono guitar channel, chose "mono" from the VST3 dropdown menu, but it only panned the sound hard right. This is very odd.

You must also set the pin connectors properly: One input, two outputs.
Look at the screenshots shown in the posts above.

Thanks a lot, this thread should be a sort of hard sticky. I am doing templates and tests and i was getting crazy. This thread and others related to the very different approach of the Mono/Stereo paradigm of Reaper from other DAWs explains the discrepancies and honestly took me by surprise.
