I tweaked the colors of the dark version to suit me.
I love the collapsing of TCP tracks, and especially love the Skinny Master Channel
I use the Master channel to drive our visual Monome metronome and send click out to it.
It also is where I house Breeders BPM Calculator for quick analysis of Hz and other conversions.
Thanks for your time on this excellent theme.
Just learning how to edit themes and Reaper MenuSets is a really fun way to use Reaper...
Merci Mon Frčre.......

I've just tested the download, it's beta 3. Maybe you should delete your browser cache and download again ?
You're supposed to have these layouts :

Hi mako55a, I just downloaded the latest beta3 and I think I am happy with the track number area. Thanks Bernstraw!
And by the way, did you choose random colors in your example or do you really use green vox and yellow guitar tracks? I do!

You nailed it Brotha' Man..
I was here gigging when the Silver Spur was the action.
We had Marquis back then, the only lights were PAR Lamps and Super Trooper Arc Welded Spots.
Once I get profficient with theming, I'll create the Vegas Strip Theme.
Splash Screen of a stripper in action, random colors represented by a pair of dice, etc.

Yes, Beta3 is another big improvement of GreyMatter Theme (track numbers and stripes).
Colors were not random I use them predefined in SWS autocoloring tool, also red for bass, blue for drums and violet for synths. What are yours for above mentioned? The same? Impossible!

Hi, Bernstraw
Thanks for another big theme improovement. BRAVO!
I am specially happy with new mute, solo buttons. They are now very well visible .
New track selection with changed track number area also plays well. Just two minor things:
There is no such selection in tcp COLOR STRIP and color stripe - pan fader layuots. Is it intentionally, or You just missed it?
Second, I think the upper side of the selection frame around the number should be 1 px higher. I have tested it with Segoe UI 10px bolded font and there is small gap between font and bottom line and no gap between font and upper line.
I like also new tcp aligment. Everything is now independent on tracks identation. Looks super.
I am also going to give a try for stripe layouts. I like the idea. Why do you mark it "experimental"?
Thanks for Your engagement
Hi, again.
I have just tested tcp meters in reaper beta10 and tcp horizontal meters don't show anything. Vertical ones play ok.

I may have missed it since the trackidx image is used for the color "hack". Will add this, thanks.

I've changed the track font to a much smaller one and that frame is based on that.
Perhaps try Segoe UI 9px (the frame height is 11 so only non-pair font sizes will be centered).
I'll keep this pb in mind though

That's just a way to say that it's really a hack (the trackidx image covering the panel) and could very well end up not working in WALTER's future.
I've also made a request that could make this hack unnecessary.

Horizontal meters don't show anything ? You mean you don't see the activity, or rather you don't see a bug ? It's working here (beta 10 too).
If there's a pb, please take a screen capture if you can.
As always, thanks for the useful comments !

Hi Bernstraw-
First, thanks for these beautiful themes! I especially like the Dark version.
Question: I'm not able to see the Region names in the MIDI editor in either version. Is this something I can adjust? The region text is something I'm having trouble with in other themes as well, and I can't find an explicit setting for it, nor can I figure out what it takes its color from.
In the Dark version I see just a light gray background, and in the regular version just a dark background, but no text in either.
Thanks very much!
-Susan

Thats really some clever trickery
For a moment I thought I'd missed a preference to color the track id to a custom color.
Shame it will only work with fully colored mcp tracks . Although I guess you could apply the same trick , very cool...........

Confirmed, I just saw your post in the theme forum.
Well that's a nice little bug : the color is supposed to be the same as in the arrange view don't you think ?
In fact when you select a region color, it works perfectly (and when you reset to default color it doesn't).
Btw when I try to resize the region from the left in the MIDI Editor, the region length goes to zero !
The timeline of the MIDI Editor is a bit troublesome at times (you can't edit regions f.e.) and should really behave exactly like in the arrange view.

Yeah that's not really great yet.
A good solution would be to be able to activate track label and/or panel tint in the TCP and separatly in the Mixer.
Or, better, to have it as real WALTER elements :
set tcp.tint [x y w h ....]
set mcp.tint [x y w h ....]
That would be great, for many other themes too.

Yes, I think it should be the same as the arrange view (or independently customizable). I hadn't tried coloring the region, but I agree it's a bug that the default doesn't work the same.
I also hadn't tried resizing the region from the left in the ME, but that's a good catch, too. I'll go ahead and report both if I can't find them mentioned.
Thanks very much, this was bugging me!

Hi,
I did not prepare any gif because, unfortunately there was nothing to show. Just no any audio activity visible in tcp horizontal meters at all. ;(
But I just instaled beta10 fresh, portable and it was ok. Then I imported my configuration into it and again no meters activity visible, also default them is not working, so it is probably something with my instalation.
EDIT:
I just have found it. Preferences - Show meters in track control panels was unchecked. How come? No idea.
So meters are working great .

That's great ! This preference has been added recently, I think it was to speed things up on old computers.
Btw I've updated the theme to fix the color strip tcp layouts (should work correctly now for folders and added selected trackidx frames) : download

Hey,
If it is new, I think this preference should be checked by default, so everything is working as before.
Bernstraw, how do You assigne text label colors for separators layout. In tcp they are black and in mcp they are white. I would like to change them for one the same color, because now if one is well visble on tint backgroud the second one is not.

compacting folders
I really like this theme, thanks. When compacting folders in the tcp I often like to take them down to the single line style (a choice in most themes). Is this possible or is there something I'm missing in the way I have mine set up?
Thanks

I did a fresh beta10 install and "show meters in tcp" is selected by default.
Maybe it becomes unselected when loading a config saved before this option was added ?
About the separators : it could be a pb indeed.
In the rtconfig.txt file, search for :
Simply delete this line and save the file, the mcp separator text will be dark like in tcp (or change the rgb color values).
In the tcp the color is the same for all layouts and can be set in the Theme Editor.

Ah yes I set it to 0 but maybe that's not such a good idea to have this by default...
You can change this yourself if you want :
Go to Options -> Show REAPER resource path... and open the "ColorThemes" folder.
Rename "GrayMatter_beta3.ReaperThemeZip" as "GrayMatter_beta3.zip" and extract it.
In the folder that will be extracted open the rtconfig.txt file and search for this line :
Code:
tcp_heights 0 24 47 62
change it to :
Code:
tcp_heights 1 24 47 62
(or 2, or 3 like in the default theme).
Save the file and, back to reaper, select the theme "GrayMatter_b3_unpacked".

Actually that gave me an idea :
Having compact folded tracks as meters (perhaps should be 2 pixels per track instead of 4).
I don't know if it's a good idea or not (since it would probably use more cpu), but I could add this as a global option for tcp layouts .
Tell me what you think.

Ahaha, thanks ! Walter's great !
I've updated the theme with this new option.
Download : https://stash.reaper.fm/8461/GrayMatter_pack.zip
In the rtconfig.txt you can set this on or off.
Code:
; METERS IN COMPACTED FOLDERS (on = [1] / off = [0])
set foldermeter [1]
It's "on" by default for the moment so you can all test it right away.

I've just tested it and this is the correct file, try to clear your browser cache and dowload again.
In the changelog.txt file you must see this :

Hi,
I have tested new compacted folders. Everything looks fine. BRAVO.
I realized that mute, solo buttons for separators layout are not updated with new designe.
I have prepared them. More over I have made alternative version for selection mark (idx icons).
If you like to try them, download here:
https://stash.reaper.fm/8928/mako55a.rar
(corrected)
Regards.

Hi mako,
I am trying to download the link and it seems corrupted. It says I need permission even though I am logged in.
Thanks for your work.
I love this theme, and everything works fine for me except from the collapsing sometimes I get distored track numbers.
This is no biggie for me, but thought maybe Bernie would want to see it.

Here's the correct link : https://stash.reaper.fm/8928/mako55a.rar
I can't see much in your screenshot, so I can't really identify what's wrong.
If you really need this to be fixed, you can always upload your customized theme and I'll have a look at it, no pb.

Just had to try and see if this was possible.
When collapsing the TCP is there any way for a 270 degree inversion of the text for the track names...?
I find this theming stuff fascinating and if this could be done, I would be super impressed, as I have never seen this before on any DAW..
Just thought I'd show another shot of the track numbers in the TCP.
I can't seem to get rid of the white background and I have tried everything in the Appearance, media, and theme editor.
I really enjoy using grey beta 3 dark. I like to keep my arrange window as large as possible so the tricks you've done collapsing the TCP are most appreciative...
Merci Mon Frere..

That's not something WALTER can do atm, but that could be a cool FR indeed (as an option).
Also thanks for your kind comments, I've edited your modified theme to get rid of the white background on selected tracks, and also to have the correct color (black) for folder indentation :
New Folder.zip
If you want other tiny modifications like this, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks Chief.
I'll try it when I get home tonight...
Now it will be perfect.

Works perfectly.
Merci Mon Frere...
Below is the main reason I would love to see the rotated track names.
It would be useful in 36-48 track Mixer views.

Hi Bernstraw,
I have played a little bit with fonts for text icons (text on button) and I have noticed strange behavior.
There are 3 versions of floating toolbar on the image below.
There are standard 'Edit me', 'small letter' and 'BIG LETTER' text icon buttons.
First version - just Gray Matter with default settings (Calibri 8 fonts) - does not look very good, but ok.
Second - Gray Matter with fonts as in Reaper 4 default theme (arial 9) - as you can see BIG LETTER overlaps and small letter just has disappeared.
Third - Reaper default with Arial 9
Please check it and let me know what may be wrong (my setup, theme or reaper bug).
Thanks.

The calibri font looks better than in your screenshot here, so maybe you have checked "Faster text rendering" in the preferences ?
The size pb looks like a reaper bug : even if the Theme Editor indicates Arial 9 in the default theme, it's obviously Arial 7.
In fact if you select Arial 7 in the default theme, it will look the same, but if you re-select Arial 9 it will look too big, just like in any other theme.
The track label font seems to suffer from the same "bug" btw.
I have no clue why it does that.

GMatter is working great in Weaper 4.0.
The Vertical collapse is so appreciated.
Also I use a different Font for big letters,
as I also prefer to read letters over most symbols.
Great Theme Chief.
