Default "Resampled from 44.1kHz"

Why do I have a little [i] with this message on every track? I don't have a project rate set (box unticked) and the interface default is 44.1. I'm using 24 bit FLAC[5] as the track output format. What is resampling and why?

If the sample rate of your files is different than the sample rate of your opened project Reaper automatically converts the sample rate of the files to match that of the project.

These are tracks I recorded in REAPER, using the default interface rate (44k1). If REAPER is converting from 44k1, what is it converting to? And is it converting recorded tracks from 44k1 to (something) back to 44k1 to write out?

Is this perhaps a new interface wrinkle in 5 that I've had going all along but haven't noticed before?

It's resampling to your audio device samplerate (seen at upper right main window corner).

'aha moment.' :-\ The REAPER default (if no sample rate it set) is apparently 48k. Hard set project settings rate to 44k1...

Thanks!
