Default Realistic VST for lead guitar in rock/metal recordings.//SOLVED

Hi all as some one new to the world of VST I am trying to find a realistic sounding distortion for rock/metal style music. The rhythm is no problem. But for the more sustain and great tones for lead I am needing to find a good quality VST.

So far I have downloaded many of the free ones. They just are not realistic enough.

I see many of the more professional looking packages come with a free trial. I think this would be preferable.

I tired to download shreddage but there was a java script error message.

I don't mind buying one but would like a free trial and again to make sure it downloads properly.

What are some of you peoples favourites. Cheers

Check Orangetreesamples. It has the most realistic sound out there IMHO.

Hello, start off with Voxengo Boogex. Its free, easy and a full featured (reverb, cabinets with mic choice) guitar amp sim. They also have many other free VSTs. Check them out, can't go wrong.

Duh, after re reading your post I see you have tried many freebees. Kuassa makes a nice plug. I have Caliburn for Marshall style and Matchlock for Fender style. Got them each on sale for 25$ US. Good luck! Have fun!!

I'm sooper impressed with the stock distortion guitar that comes with Kontakt. Check the solo I played on my midi keyboard that starts at 1:43 on this song. I've had guitar players ask me who was playing the solo, and I had to chuckle that I fooled them before copping to it being fake.

Default SOLVED VSTS FOR LEAD

Thanks ALL for your response I promise to have fun and try these suggestions... Also Toontrack seems to have some good stuff I will look into that as well the Ez Mix 2 can then be added onto with some extension packs like 70 rock guitar sounds ... it just all costs so its a work in progress.

Glennbo -- very cool song real 70's vibe to it loved it.

thanks for suggestions -- Kuassa., matchlock , orangetreesamples

Tanks. Something I should mention is that I run the Kontakt "Solo Guitar" through "Guitar Rig" (and other FX) with a patch that would be suitable for a real guitar to play through. The Kontakt Solo Guitar sounds good by itself, but run through a guitar amp sim helps makes it sound more believable.
