No worries, I know he did a few othe EQ models, but that's the only one I've seen around lately.

Default Oxe FM Synthesizer (freeware, now on WIN/OSX/Linux)

http://www.oxesoft.com/

"Oxe FM Synth is an open source VST 2.4 instrument plugin for Windows, Linux and MacOSX."

easiest FM synth I've ever used. works great, sounds great, and it's getting even better.

I'm sure it's a sweet one, but shouldn't this be in the "all freeware... well, almost" thread?

Default I rarely buy plug-ins - not 'cos I'm tight haha

Hi,
I make hip hop beats and use an MPC as a VST in Reaper. I have bought some Bass and Sample Romplers geared towards classic hip-hop sounds and have only begun using a synth (as I use clean bass samples in the MPC and do the 16 levels) since I discovered the incredible TyrellN6 which to my ears as is fantastic and doesn't require me to read and watch dull videos about synth programming as I know the basics and it has so many great presets I just mess about with them. It seems to come top pretty much of the free synth lists.

Variety of Sound effects are fantastic. Blue Cat are too. The Scarlett pack that came free with my Scarlett interface is very nice. The TAL synths are good for basslines. For hip hop it's more about the quality of drum samples etc and a decent sampler. Tbh I DJ and would rather spend my cash on vinyl when quality free VSTs are out there.

+1 on the U-he synths and Variety of Sound effects.

Other top drawer freeware developers are Voxengo, Melda, Klanghelm and Tokyo Dawn Labs.

This works great seems to me, easy download, no installer, simple and fun even to use, represents the different sound environments very well imo.

DFX Skidder: A free vst/au for creating stutter effect, or helicopter-like textures. It basically turns your sound on and off (kinda like a gate), but also provides fine tuning via several parameters such as PWM and rand. This little thing is so simplistic, but so useful!

Default Excellent Free Amp Sim

I am a happy S-Gear user but I just ran across this free Amp Sim and was very impressed. This is now my "go to" recommendation for free/inexpensive Amp Sim plugs.

https://tonelib.net/gfx-overview/

(This was discussed over in the Linux forum, but I did not see it mentioned anywhere else.)

Default Ripchord

Ripchord is a free VST3 from Trackbout.

It's kind of like the chord portion of Cthulhu in that it lets you set up chords that are each triggered by a single keyboard press.

I find it's easier to use than Cthulhu as it lets you easily modify the chord you are creating. You can also name the chord you are creating.

You can create elaborate chord progressions with each chord being played just using one finger. (So, it's a great choice if you are not a very good keyboard player... like myself!)

There is also a user area that allows sharing of created chord presets.

It's an excellent freebie:

Saw this thread while searching for something else.

A plugin I can strongly recommend, is Bionic Delay by Interruptor. It certainly isn't the prettiest plugin but I haven't found a delay (commercial or not) which is even close to comprable. Incredibly easy to use and results are spectacular without fail.:

I'm very fond of this one: https://www.applied-acoustics.com/aas-player/

It's a preset player, no tweaking possibilities. But the sounds are really good. The pads have lots of definition and cuts through a dense mix without problems. The sounds have fx on them, but rather tasteful, not too much. The thing just works, running just fine in Reaper.

Default Audacity's Noise Removal -> Reaper JS noise gate (simple)?

I currently compress and remove noise in Audacity, then re-render the file. Only then do I start editing it in Reaper. As I record in mp3, I want to stop doing that, and instead to do these things directly in reaper.

Is the "JS noise gate (simple)" FX the closest there is in Reaper to Audacity's Noise Removal?

If there a better effect for removing (during what should otherwise be silent moments) hisses, static, and other background noise?

I've attached screenshots of each.

Thanks.

Best noise removal for Reaper is: ReaFIR, Mode: Subtract, learn the noise profile, activate, smile. Have fun my friend.

Yes, when you download the free swatches the free player is in the installer. Took me a while to realize that Good piece of free kit, though! Worth checking out.

The installer says 96.5 megs gets installed.

Sort of the opposite of an all around useful general purpose instrument More of a soundscape creation tool than an instrument the way its content is presented. Most of the patches in the free bundle are so effected and arpeggiated that they're not of any use unless you're doing trippy or spaceman music. But there are a few winners for more useful good ones. Worth the download and running through the patches.

Be sure to watch the demo video. It shows how it works very well.

Analogue Obsession's 'CHANNEV' plug-in is fantastic. In terms of a free console emulator it's the best I've used. It has three separate tape saturations built in.

It used to crash Reaper frequently but I think he fixed it in an update.
