Default Thunderbolt Interfaces on PC - Yea or Nay

I'm in search of lower latency when monitoring with effects. Thunderbolt sounds like a possible solution but its implementation on PC seems less than perfect.

Questions for the experienced:
Are you successfully running a TB interface on PC and, if so, which one(s)?
Are you able to monitor with effects through Reaper with minimal latency?
Does your MB have a TB connector or are you using a PCI card?
What issues should I watch out for?

My MB supposedly supports TB but has no native connector: https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-Z...MING-EDGE-WIFI

But the mfr offers a TB PCIe card: https://www.msi.com/PC-Component/Thu.../Specification

I use UAD Apollo Twin MKII with Asus ThunderboltEX3 card connected via Apple TB2 to TB3 adapter, works like a charm.

P.S. I use UAD monitoring, not Reaper's.

Thanks for the info. The Apollo Twin X is one of the interfaces I'm considering.

You can get a PCI express Thunderbolt for your computer

Thanks. I'm really looking for people with first-hand experience and whether it's working well or not. There are several videos on Youtube that describe problems with the UAD stuff on PC, for example.

You need a machine with a logic board that supports thunderbolt. This is a hard line in the sand. Logic boards that do not natively support TB will not be able to be expanded with a pci card. The pci cards will only work with logic boards that already support TB. You might get some connectivity with a pci card and pre-TB logic board but you will not get stable full bandwidth.

TB was introduced in 2011. If you have an older logic board, TB is not an option. (At least not at full spec.)

My motherboard supposedly supports TB per the link I posted above, though it still requires an added PCIe card. It's a Z590 chipset purchased this year.

But it still seems to be a sketchy standard. I'm influenced by videos like this: https://youtu.be/DjLvPOn1gL4

Not getting a lot of responses to this thread which is more fuel on the fire.

Keep in mind this video is 2 1/2 years ago and a lot has change since then. Including the fact that Thunderbolt ports are now on most motherboards.
