Default PROBLEM: audio speeds itself up after being recorded

hello all! I recently purchased reaper. I like the quality and its pretty easy to understand workflow wise

BUT

when I record audio, after I stop recording it speeds up. I have to use the rate dial to move the audio back about -6 to get it to the original sound it should be at.

I don't have any settings set on the rate dial usually, I just record at 1.0

I'm using an interface to record everything into reaper.

its very frustrating because I want to learn how to use this daw and everything speeds up! I don't want to feel like I've wasted a purchase.

does anyone have any remedies? or maybe has anyone been through this same process? please let me know!

thank you!

very strange, is the pitch changing as well?

are you doing anything inbetween recording & playback?

A sample rate mismatch has done this to me in the past.

yes the pitch increases and the audio speeds up

I had a feeling it had something to do with the sample rate. I have to get the rate on my interface timed up correctly with the DAW.

thank you both for your help.

I have to check the internal info on my interface and get it lined up correctly. on to the work!
