Default Reaper latency with real time usage

The latency is so bad. If I even try and use plugins in real time and listen to myself without latency issues, its impossible. I recently purchased reaper, and I'm extremely frustrated. The popping and crackling is so bad it's unusable. I don't know what to do. For some od reason, the levels are also higher than the monitor on my AUD. I peak in Reaper but not on my symphony desktop. So real time monitoring of my vocals is impossible, as I need to move it from 32 to 2048 for it to work without pops and crackles. I even tried to use one plugin which is a denoiser and all I get on playback is pops and crackles. I'm losing my shit here. I need a solution. When I email reaper for support, I am told to get it here on the forums.

The only post I could find was one from 2008.

In Preferences->Audio->Buffering, tick the "Allow live FX multiprocessing on" and choose how many cores you want. Apparently, it might impare performance, but i'm not sure how. I just asked the poster on the REAPER forums, and I will update this when I get his answer."

It seems a bit daft that Reaper doesn't automatically detect all the CPU's and use them accordingly as standard. Then if this needs to be changed it can be done manually in the 'Options' settings rather than the other way round.

I suspect the problem isn't in the Reaper defaults but your computer's lack of performance. Mine works smoothly at 64 samples and I dont remember ever touching those deep Reaper's settings.

Resplendence Latencymon should point you to problematic drivers/devices. Also what's your audio interface and do you use appropriate ASIO driver?

edit: ah I see Symphony Desktop is an interface - damn, that looks nice. Anyway hope you don't run it with ASIO4ALL or something. Assuming you run Windows.

This is a "live" situation, which is a complex matter. Hence you might want to take a look at the sticky thread in the "live" forum, to find a lot of information about using Reaper as a live playing tool.

This is because you have apparently bought reaper without learning anything about it & are now demanding solutions to issues that are caused by you not having bothered to read the free owners manual or watching the free video tutorials. Oops! Missed this bit...

IF you check out the stuff on initial setup and still can`t figure it out, by all means come back & ask again, but this time tell us the specification of your computer, what you are using for a audio/MIDI interface & of course what plugins you are using.
Correctly set up, most relatively recent computers are more than capable of giving
low latency.

In the meantime, just so you can check your system, download and run resplendence.com `s excellent latency monitor.
It will tell you if your system is set up to be capable of doing multitrack audio/MIDI recording or not & offer suggestions s to where to look if it cant.

This is not intended to be a rude post, any more than your initial comment was, so don`t get angry, just get to work on learning reaper.

Yeah, I'm on windows 10 using an ASUS Gamers Republic
Intel i7 4700 2.40 Ghz
24 gig ram

Not sure why I would have any issue with those specs

I'm using the symphony desktop. Yeah, I'm only looking to use this on one track for voice over. Even the nectar 3 plugin has issues and I need to bump up the buffer size. Limiter, compressor, ERA plugins, etc.

I did run the report and all came back good.

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt
service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread
from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 145.60
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 4.374713

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 133.70
Average measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 1.258132

REPORTED ISRs

Highest ISR routine execution time (µs): 71.517962
Driver with highest ISR routine execution time: ndis.sys - Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS), Microsoft Corporation

Highest reported total ISR routine time (%): 0.024506

DPC routines are part of the interrupt servicing dispatch mechanism and disable the possibility for a process to utilize the CPU while it is interrupted until
the DPC has finished execution.

REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The
process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts,
clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Process with highest pagefault count: latmon.exe

Total number of hard pagefaults 7
Hard pagefault count of hardest hit process: 7
Number of processes hit: 1

Cool. Can I suggest that you have a quick dive through the setup videos and docs & also run through glitch free? I honestly think following glitch free`s suggestions will sort you out.

Sure. Where can I find the vids and I'm not sure how to run thru the glitch free?
