Hello all,

I reserved my first post to thank b0se (and all the others) for creating this theme. I'm a soon-to-be Logic refugee and this... this here saved my hide. Dragged myself kicking and screaming to Reaper, probably my 4th crack at it in as many years, and I knew that "Reaper just wasn't going to work for me." Talk about self-biasing before I even started to try.

Psychologically, I think fussing with the theme and appreciating the small/thoughtful details helped hide some of the anxiety while learning a new DAW and re-adapting old habits and workflows. It was frustrating, it was fun, and it was an engaging distraction that helped take that first step in learning a whole new way of doing things.

While I waited the 24 hours for my account to be activated, I did two things. I read the 50 page thread here. Whew! Who's WALTER and why is he writing in Polish? Lol, we all learn, I suppose.

Second, I watched some Kenny Gioia while I waited. Dragged myself over kicking and screaming, "there's no way Reaper could look this bad and be this unintuitive and be able to do what I need to -- wait, what did Kenny just do with Automation Items?!?"

In 5 seconds I created a complex automation that would've taken 5 minutes+ of manual clicking in Logic. I thought it was impossible that Reaper could even approximate what I could do with Ableton + max, which I'm also demoing. I was so wrong. Reaper may save me a bundle by not having to buy a full A10 Suite license.

Anyway, back to the theme and a simple question -- how do I uncolor the fx/send background? I thought they were un-colored by default and the easter egg allowed you to change the PNG file names to have the colored backgrounds. I did a straight default install and I have the colored background. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Oh hey Andy... I follow you on Soundcloud, small world! Maybe I'll just pull up a track of yours right now...

I could gush about Reaper for hours, still speechless and dumbfounded with some of the things I thought I could never do. Realigning my expectations and biases and whatnot. There are still dozens of simple things I can not do (yet), but so many power user things that have me shaking my head. Wish I had transitioned earlier.

I'm even starting to adjust to Kenny's accent and cadence, lol. What an incredible asset to the community.

Yes, indeed

Thanks, and ditto. I'm not listening to much stuff at the moment so this makes a refreshing change

You will get some great help here with any tech questions you have, so dive right in and ask away.

I must admit that my own needs are quite simple...

Yes, Kenny is a gem

did you copy the Theme Adjuster image folder to the Reaper/Scripts folder along with the new theme adjuster script?

That may be the issue, in my v2.1 download there's no image folder inside of /Fonts /Theme Adjuster or /Theme... and yep, I have 4 Smooth .lua inside of scripts/Cockos.

If you are also getting the missing PNG error for the Theme Adjuster, then try the steps I left above for svijayrathinam

I looked at the free version on Stash.
The color is only showing up when a track is selected.
You will need to extract the theme file and theme image folder from the packed theme.
It's just a Zip file.
after being extracted, open the image folder look for the following file in that folder and any subfolders:
mcp_extmixbgsel.png
rename that file. Example:
mcp_extmixbgsel-old.png

make a copy of this file:
mcp_extmixbg.png

rename that copy to this:
mcp_extmixbgsel.png

You have now modified the theme, so it's best to rename it and it's corresponding image folder.

On Windows, you should put LUA files under REAPER\Scripts\Cockos folder.

This is incorrect.
they should be put directly in the REAPER\Scripts folder.

From the first post (emphasis mine):

Quote:
Step 2: Install Theme Adjusters

1) Open Reaper, select Options > "Show REAPER resource path in explorer/finder..."

2) Navigate to Scripts folder, then the Cockos folder which is contained within it.

3) Move/copy "Smooth_6_theme_adjuster.lua" and the other three files into the Cockos folder.
It needs to be in the same folder as the Default_6.0_theme_adjuster_images folder, or else you get the missing images error.

Ahh.. I see.
It's effectively a custom script, so it should be outside the Cockos folder.
not sure why svijayrathinam is getting that error message then.

I think it worked out that way because b0se based everything of the default v6 skin and used the same basic scripts/editor, which relies on some graphic resources found in the Cockos subfolder.

Loving this theme and looking forward to v2.5 planning to send a donation as I think its well worth it!

Curious if anyone knows how to switch the midi editor note velocity back to the original, where the highest velocity (127) is red and the quieter notes are colored green?

I changed mine using a custom MIDI colormap. For example save the attached to your %APPDATA%\Reaper\MIDINoteNames folder.

Then in the MIDI Editor figure out how to select a custom MIDI Colors file by Velocity. I'm not certain how to do it with the default menus since I use the ReaMenus customizations.

Thanks for the note velocity tip! To get it to be replaced on mine I removed the numbers from the png name and placed the file in my modded unpacked theme folder:
C:\Users\*YOURNAME*\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\ColorTh emes\Smooth_6 mod\

Actually I wound up using the default color map which is brighter. Attached here.

Q: Could someone remind me where to change the MIDI note channel colors? Thanks!
[moments later...]
A: Sure, I can. They are the colored bars on the right side of the same png.

I'm having trouble getting this theme to work. This is currently what I have (see attached pic.)

I've gone through all the steps 1-4 but just couldn't get the percentages to change at the top (the 3 together) in Theme Adjuster.

The mixer isn't included in the pic but appears to be right.

Anybody help?

Thanks!

Looks like you are on Windows. If memory serves from previous posts, right now the only Windows scale versions that work correctly are 100%.

The author is pending releasing separate Mac and Win versions to help avoid incompatibilities.

I personally use 100% A mixer for most tracks. I have 100% B setup as a Narrow view and left 100% C alone.

D'you think that will fix the issue with the icons across the top?

That happened ever since I tried to install Blankfiles Logic 3.77 theme a week or so ago.

Oh I see that one. I don't think the Theme will fix or break that. It looks like your toolbar icons cant find their icon image files. Have you tried looking at the Toolbar settings ?

I think it may be what I didn't install on another theme.

Where are the toolbar settings?

Right click on the toolbar... a menu should open with several choices... try Customize Toolbar...

Reaper V6.11 theme adjuster and Smooth... headsup

Previous versions of the Smooth_6_Dark_theme_adjuster and assuming the Smooth_6_theme_adjuster do not work correctly with Reaper v6.11.

I think it is because of the changes added in v6.11 theme adjuster to manipulate colors on the new General Settings > Color Controls section.

I used Notepad++ to compare the b0Se version of theme adjuster and there are significant new chunks of code in the 6.11 theme adjuster not present.

Easy fix unless you rely on the provided SMOOTH color palette.

First save copies of your older Smooth_6 theme adjusters.
Next copy the provided Default_6.0_theme_adjuster.lua file to the same names used with Smooth6 in the same Scripts/Cockos folder:
Smoothe_6_theme_adjuster.lua
Smoothe_6_Dark_theme_adjuster.lua

Seems to work fine although I have not tried out all adjustable features. I can use the General Settings > Color Control to affect my presented colors.

That toolbar Customize toolbar I don't think is the right thing. Couldn't really see anything in there, clicked a few things, hasn't worked. I may have to restore Reaper to factory settings.

I've been using this altered / messed up Reaper theme for about 3 days now. Half works. TCP and Mixer fine.

Can anybody explain step by step what I've got to do as it's alluding me somewhat. Just want to get this theme working. I've installed it incorrectly but I followed the steps as accurately as it describes on page 1.

Thanks.

Best theme ever! So light on my eyes, minimalistic and just pretty.
I also made toolbar icons based on Smooth Color Palette, because I wanted to assign them to SWS coloring actions, so I thought I'll share it, in case if somebody would like to use it too

Looks like that:

In the OP's first post are these color values. Where are these intended to be "saved" or where to put these codes? Thanks!

Quote:
Highly Recommended: Optimised Colours

While you can use any colours you like, the theme was designed with specific values in mind. Use a colour dropper on the SMOOTH colour palette (2 images above) to save them, or use these codes:

Code:

Colour #hex [RGB]
------------------------------
Red #e4514e [228 81 78]
Orange #d27831 [210 120 49]
Yellow #beb24a [190 178 74]
Green #529646 [82 150 70]
Teal #45968c [69 150 140]
Blue #437acb [67 122 203]
Indigo #7f75e3 [127 117 227]
Violet #a766c8 [167 102 200]

I really, really love this theme! Many thanks for sharing this.

Would it be possible to get an "inverted" version of this? Something like "invert" in Photoshop on all the graphics? Because actually I think the majority of this theme is too dark. But if it would only have most of the gray tones just inverted it would really work as a light theme. So all the dark backgrounds would be brighter and the faders, knobs etc. would become darker (for the contrast). Yipp, I think a simply "invert" in Photoshop would be a good starting point.

Actually I'd love to do it myself, Photoshop is not the problem. Unfortunately I don't understand all the things "around" themeing in Reaper. What to adjust and what not, all the pink pixels etc...

Default Top Left bug in transport

I just discovered your Smooth Theme.

It's awesome, BTW!

But I think I've found a bug in the transport when you choose the 200% layout on a MacBook Pro Retina.

Default Trojan warning!

Malwarebytes keeps giving me a Trojan warning when I try to see the link'd photos from the first post.

Is there another way to presently view the theme?

I still can't get this theme to look like it does in the screenshots on the first page.

The Mixer and TCP are ok but the transport / toolbar not. I get this (see pic.)

If I right click next to the toolbar I get 4 options:- Switch Toolbar, Open Toolbar, Open Toolbar, Customise Toolbar. Clicked on quite a lot of options and nothing works.

If I switch to toolbar 1 or any of the toolbar numbers which follow I lose the whole toolbar?

Thanks!

So I can try to help at least.

Can you explain what, exactly, is wrong in the image you posted? Everything there looks correct to me as far as the theme goes. The only differences I see are that b0se has his main toolbar customized, and his transport controls centered

I saw earlier you were having trouble with toolbar icons? Though that doesn't really relate to this theme, as it doesn't come with any custom icons.

Not the same icon graphics. How can I get these?

EDIT - Know what's going on now. You have to assign all the icons yourself etc by clicking the little edit button that comes up if you click customise toolbar.

I Had to do this fix in order to make the theme adjuster work with v6.11. The theme adjuster has to be updated on this theme.

You should have them already. They're part of default Reaper. Smooth doesn't come with any custom icons. For example, I see Load, Metronome, Undo/Redo, & Snap in both your screenshot and the one cropped from the front page.

Unless you're talking about how there are different buttons in the toolbar than yours? Like the "Render" text buttons, hourglass, MIDI plug, Red/Green waveform etc.

If that's what you mean: b0se changed his Main Toolbar to include different actions than what it normally does. Themes can change what those pictures look like but I don't think they can change what buttons are there.

You'd have to set that up yourself if you wanted it to be identical. Using the "Customize Toolbar" option by right-clicking. There you can add things from the actions list, reorder buttons, give them icons, or remove what you don't need.

Links definitely aren't broken, they're all still there for me. I'm guessing you might having something blocking that image site (cloudfront.net)?

Possibly, they weren’t showing on either my desktop system or my phone. Just noticed the images were back today so was able to redo the setting. Thanks.

Is there a way to scale the sizing for Windows 10 without any significant compromises? I'm in 1440p and using a 27" monitor. I absolutely love the way those 4k screenshots look (zoomed out to fit my screen properly of course) with the larger tracks and channels.

These are the things I've tried:

-Increase scaling size in Windows settings
This looks alright up to a certain point (115% or so) but the icons (transport, mute, solo, FX, etc.) and some text ("IN" under channel Input FX) look quite blurry. Past a certain point of scaling, glitches occur causing text within channel and track names to become massive. Tried using the System Enhanced scaling override option in the Reaper shortcut compatibility options but it didn't seem to help with blurriness.

-Increase scaling size in Reaper UI options
Similar results to above.

-Increase sizing of tracks + channels + transport using Theme Adjuster
This was very interesting. The results were originally similar to above, but just for fun I decided to delete the custom fonts that were part of the installation package. This allowed me to select the 150% and 200% scaling options without the issue of the gigantic text. At 150%, the icons were very blurry. However, at 200% it was apparent that much higher resolution icons were being loaded and they looked fantastic. I was able to get the mixer channels looking pretty nice by selecting 200% and then downscaling the overall UI in the Reaper settings to 0.6-0.7 or so, but the tracks were still far too big horizontally and of course there were now some other elements of the UI that were extremely tiny.

Is there anything I can do to get the sizing looking more like the screenshots?
