cursor_seltrack.png was much better in my opinion, personally a horizontal line at the top of the track and at the bottom of the track is the best for me, as you can see here, in comparison the bracket is off centre to the side a little and off middle between top and bottom too, the two lines next to it are simple and don't take away any accuracy from the cursor line.

If you're gonna add a new visual element on top of the cursor to indicate the paste point this is the way to go. Use something perpendicular to the cursor rather than parallel. Personally though I would still prefer if we had a new option in the theme tweaker so we could change the color and/or make it blink without altering the shape or size.

Still getting inconsistent behavior in the Media Explorer with Options -> Show -> Leading Paths in Databases and Searches. Unless I'm missing something obvious, it only works on some of my databases. For instance, it works on my "Toms DB" and toggling that option goes from showing the leading path to just the file name by itself, but it does nothing on my "Hats DB" and a few others where only the file name appears regardless of the "Leading Paths..." setting.

Another display bug in Media Explorer sometimes the disks in the My Computer shortcut section are not visible.

To reproduce:

1. Open Media Explorer
2. Dock it to the left
3. Shortcuts List open with Horizontal layout
4. Open a large database and horizontal to the right
5. Click on "My Computer" from the Shortcut List

Result: My Computer is blank

6. Resize the width of the window (you just need to move it)

Result: Disk drives now appear in My Computer.

Seems like the right scroll in a database then jumping to My Computer throws off the display.

is there a way to prevent vertical movement on area selection? to move it on the same tracks/lanes. I see a Vertically mouse modifier, but not Horizontally one. It could be smart and use the same modifier to maintain vertical or horizontal, based on which direction you start to move or copy it ?

Why the name 612+ instead of 613+? A simple mistake or general feature rollback?

bugs:
1."Delete one area contents" deletes all areas contents
2."Split media items at one area selection" splits at all selections

Something about the new FX and parameters buttons in TCP turned things worse for me: if I'm using the mouse wheel to scroll vertically tracks (with the mouse pointer over TCP) when the pointer "falls" on one of these buttons the wheel action is swallowed and scroll no longer works.

I have to move the pointer outside the rectangles to make the vertical scroll work again with the mouse wheel.
This kills the speed of navigating the arrangement...

Thanks,
Mario

This bracket should be tied to the track's height, not item, it represents a track. It should vertically contain as much track as possible - these top and bottom margins now are too much. I don't remember them previously so large.

I too would prefer to keep image-based themeability for the edit cursor.

Would it be possible to re-enable support for cursor_seltrack.png, and just exclude the file from the default theme?

i'm going to be largely offgrid and away from REAPER for a week starting today, and wanted to post this area selection issue again just in case we're anywhere near a release candidate:

moving area selection blocks does not respect an enabled "Automatically show affected media lanes when moving media items across tracks." envelopes get moved, but stay hidden. note that (for lack of a more aptly named preference), this pref should also respect AS that contain AI but no items

old gif, but tested on 0803

and also, before i go, in MX:

1- click a longer sample and let it play in preview
2- click-drag the sample while it's playing (location doesn't matter, just pick it up and hold it)
3- issue: sample stops playing unexpectedly.

i can see the purpose of "stop preview after adding to project," but i can't see the purpose of "stop preview while dragging." if the file itself is being moved into another folder, sure - stop it. but if the file itself isn't moving anywhere (or being included into a database), it should keep playing.

No need to exclude the file it could just be left empty and be included

Media Explorer:

For some reason it is still impossible to navigate in file section with Home key, while End, PageUp and PageDown work perfectly.

Thank you for perfect implementing of navigating by letter keys!

This kind of navigation would be also very nice(clicking a folder/arrow in a path for faster navigation):

I'm not seeing either of these bugs. What key commands have you mapped these actions to?

As seen also in one of previous gifs, when AI is shown in media lane, the whole envelope range gets clamped down and there is a weird gap at the top.

I'm starting to like the new cursor. I think one thing that would be nice in order to stand out better from the edit cursor, especially when it's over a selected item with identical color, is if it could blink/change color. (maybe as an option, blink on-off)

MEDIA EXPLORER:

When deleting or moving a file, the list scrolls up.

It's very inconvenient, every time we look for the place in the list, where we left off.

Maybe, it would be better to select the next one after the deleted or moved file, and don't scroll up !???

+ Media explorer: insert media on most recently selected track, not first selected track, for consistency with copy/paste

While I appreciate gettting stuff consistent and would be happy with insert and paste happening on the most recently selected track, it's not what seems to happen here. It's going to the last touched track instead, which isn't necessarily selected at all.

For example, if I touch a volume slider of a track, that track won't be selected but it will now be the last touched track (actions like "Rename last touched track" will use that track). Still, the cursor bracket jumps there and paste/insert goes there. What feels weird in this context is that touching eg a send control doesn't declare a track "last touched. I never understood why that is

I think I'd prefer paste/insert really using "most recently selected". It just doesn't feel right to me that touching some track slider changes the paste target. What is the reasoning behind this? And if there is a good reason, then why does touching another very similar track control not change target?

On another note, can the vertical part of that bracket indicator be brought down to a single pixel width? I miss the selected cursor png, were there technical reasons to remove it?

All these problems seems to be bad design decision from the beginning, again showing disconnection between the devs coding and users using. While "last touched track" is definitely useful in code and for scripting, it brings only confusion to users.

I don't see a quick fix.

i agree with both. Hopefully in a major release this issues may be re thought?
I hope so! Reaper is in an amazing state and i would dare to say the next big step should be the unification/simplification/coherency of the Experience with all the reaper existing elements for the benefit of user experience, ..

There is still a bug when copying pasting or copy-dragging an area selection containing MIDI through tempo changes. Look how the MIDI starts drifting inside of the duplicated section:

when mouse over track empty area it targets track.
When mouse over area selection it targets area selection.
For arrange view Reaper uses different mouse buttons (right drag, middle click, middle drag) so it works everywhere (over media items, area selection etc..)

Just an idea: Could the new cursor snap off edit cursor and follow mouse each time we hit ctrl+c?

It would be nice indicator to see where we want to paste.
