It's from IK Multimedia, which uses their own authentication management software. I got Amplitube Max with a new interface so I already had it installed. It hasn't been an issue for me but I have not tested it very much at all.

I think Stillwell Audio’s Rocket is a better 1176 style compressor. Only $25 for their “Reaper Only” license.

I dont. I Much prefer my free Black 76 that I got last year this time.

Its easier to dial in than the Rocket and sounds great without oversampling (decadence) unlike the Rocket.

Black 76 is pretty highly regarded among the MANY 1176 plugins available. I would jump on this if you don't have one in your stable.

I didn’t mean to start an argument! I use Urei 1176LNs on a daily basis, and Rocket compares favorably for me.

Plus there’s no need to install a software management app.

I’ll leave it at that and bow out of this thread...

Yeah, that management application is one of the two negatives for me. The other is that the installer swamps your system with all the plugins, in other words it installs all the plugins you don't own as well. Even Waves knows not to do that. But hey, it's free, sounds great and maybe I'll use some of the other IK plugins I own again.

It does suck, but I just manually throw them out.

I remember trying this years ago. Around when I bought Amplitube. It was a joke. Not even useful as a low pass filter (which is basically all it did). Amplitube was/is a joke too. I'll never buy anything from this company again. The Amplitube plugin had this stupid USB dongle + some other copy protection business that was nothing but trouble too. I really wonder what the hell I thought I was hearing when I demo'd it! I suppose that was the early days of amp sims before anyone really made one. Literally threw the software away on this one.

iLok now?! What year it it again?

Some things aren't even worth it if they're free. This is one of those things.

I've never had to use the management app for installs. It can be bypassed.

So much less of a hassle just logging in and pulling down the plugs vs that silly management tool. smh

You guys only have seven real 1176s though, so . . .

If Stillwell would get around to making native Linux versions of his plugins, I'd prolly buy a few of them. I demoed and liked 1973 when I still used Windows.

When you install the plugins the installer shows you the path, and folder. The VST3 .dlls should be in C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3. I have a folder that I set up for all the non VST3s, so I don't know where they are on your computer. If you run the installer again, it will show you the path.

Odd. Keep the shop installed, delete that crap it installs and try installing the free one again and see if it makes you install all that other stuff.

It might be a thing where if you dont have shop installed already it tries to force all its freebies/demos on you.

Actually the plugin is worth it. I've already put it to use and I like it. Authorization managers are ass, but so are intellectual property thieves. A bit of extra clicking isn't going to stop me from enjoying an 1176 plugin. I'll be doing that anyway.

Given that they generally release free units throughout the year it might be worth it to figure it out now so it doesn't happen again in the future. Just my thoughts

Positive update: managed to dump all the IK plugs I don't own. Trimming the fat is always satisying.

I installed an old Mac for a producer recently. He got so fed up with the latest T-Racks, he went back to the versions when these still were real plugins and not a humongous shop.

I bit the bullet with my version of T-Racks 5 custom I was
going to just chuck all the IK ones.
I decided after a RADAR review to take the crossgrade offer and purchased the MAX.
I have used a couple of the plugins in the last two days after getting tired and forgetting how to authorise.
I can say one of the eq's did someting for me that none of my other eq's did (operator perhaps) that said I have tried the Vari MU and saturation just
pleased I purchased.
I have some great plugins from UAD, Sonible Sonnox already these IK ones sit right there very pleased as said.
The 1176 I have not got too yet.

Well worth it imo. They've really stepped their game up. I like their tape emulations as well.

I'm on Windows 10. You can use the program "Everything" to search your disk, use Windows search or the file search of most file managers like Total Commander. Some locations are standardized such as VST3 and AAX.

The search pattern for T-Racks 5 plugins(this includes all old plugins too)

TR5*.*

Note that I am only accounting for 64-bit plugins here.

VST3 are in
Code:
c:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
VST2 are most often in
Code:
c:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins
AAX Plugins are in
Code:
c:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins

Just by moving the stuff I didn't use out, I saved almost 2 GB of space.

I just opened a project from last month that contains this plugin.

It was no longer authorized.

I ran the authorization wizard. It did not work.

Deleted.

According to Window's program, that single plug took 2 gigs (I've manually deleted all the vst 3 things long ago) so it was hasta la vista.

Compressors are way overrated.
