Hmmm... I'll look into this.. I like to find free plugins so that everyone has access to them.
I'll try browsing the JS plugins.

I recently bought the "Real World Recording" DVD for Reaper, and have watched it all the way thru today. Besides a few volume level problems between the sections, I have to say that this is WELL worth the money!

Just got the DVD in the mail today.... great stuff indeed!
It's nice to have it on DVD to see the tutorials in a more
continuous sort of way.
Great work. Well worth the money for the "paid version" It's
IMO MUCH better than the "free versions" - much more detail and
much more "work flow oriented" as a whole.

New Video: Audio Loops in Reaper | Similar to Sony Acid | Drag and Drop | Regions | Arrange music
I received a request a few days ago about working with audio loops in Reaper. The request was specifically asking if this could be done similarly to Sony Acid… SO I did some research. I wasn’t familiar with Sony Acid… but I watch a couple tutorial videos dealing with Audio loops and now I present you a video dealing with audio loops in Reaper.
What you will need: Reaper, Audio Loops, a slightly creative mind.
What you will learn: Media Browser navigation, Drag and Drop loops into a session, Region creation for musical arrangements

Just finished the "real world recording' DVD from Jonny at TutorialsForReaper and thought I'd add a public thanks and endorsement.
...
I came across this from the range of you Tube Vids Jon continues to offer up, downloaded and found really useful and as you can see, keep on coming!
Meanwhile, the DVD is not a collection of these short examples but as the title suggests 'real world recording' taking a song from a scratch guitar and vocal all the way through the editing and mixing to mastering and burning the CD in reaper and using all reaper plugins and such.
Included are a bunch off tools and extensions, FX chains and the "Apollo" theme used or where and how to download them, what they do and introducing these features too and how they can be used...especially in editing timing and tuning.
There is a lot of material in this DVDrom in part because it gives a "real world" view of how these things are done, decisions are made and acted on and why. This means having to see the entire track editing, not just a simple 'slice here like this, move over and repeat' and moving on...you are taken through every cut that is in the hundreds reinforcing what is really involved and really helping you get a feel for things as they really are....meticulous and repetitive in parts. One could 'fast forward if one chose to, but I wouldn't and I was not bored.
...
Obviously not everything is covered. Little if anything is done with MIDI that I use a lot and is of particular interest, but still all the editing and such is relevant when one considers that in the end, even midi, eventually becomes audio and needs to be treated as such. More on Midi will come I am sure and R4 will change a few things it seems so happy to wait on some of that.
One thing to consider with Midi is that in some ways it does cross over to the artist side of things than the production in many ways. Reaper does not come with a lot of VSTi's and each of us likely use midi in radially different ways.
...
In the meantime, it has encouraged me to look at things differently and the fastest way I can think of to get a real feel for the practicalities of doing things over just 'knowing the program'...
Ok...so again, thanks Jonny, keep them coming and I'd encourage people, especially newbies to reaper like me, to at least check out the shorter YT vids and consider if this tool for learning the essentials and 'real world processes' of production is for you.

HI, loving your tutorials.
I have a problem with the slip editing function you explain. I set up alt-s like you, and it splits fine, however while continuing to hold alt and try to reposition audio, I have a different tool appear, looks like two hands pulling each other, and the audio does not move like in your video. Any idea what I may be doing wrong? I have the newest reaper, 64 bit and the 64 bit sws extensions as well. I'm hoping to save a bass guitar track with this method.
Thanks, Vaughn

Hmm. Holding alt and left clicking dragging a media item should move media content by default. Maybe it got unassigned while you were assigning the alt+s command. Make sure you are clicking and dragging a the contents of the media item and not the edge. The edge will stretch the audio and look like a hand.
Even though you can edit bass with this macro its really intended for drums. If you want to use it you will probably need to stretch some of the audio.

Sample Rate Question
I have the option to pick either Direct Sound or Wave Out in my preferences. I played around with the buffer and sample rate a little and now I dont know what it was originally set at. Im not too familiar with the preference settings and any help would be appreciated alot. I tried downloading asio4all as well like you had demonstrated in your tutorial video but when I lowered the buffer even slightly it clicked and popped. Same when I had it all the way up which led me to believe it was my cpu possibly and maybe needed an upgrade.

The best thing to do is start with 512 Samples, and move it down (testing each move with a sustained sound ,like strings) until you first hear a pop, then movei it back up one notch.

So, I think I may be ready to pay for some Reaper Tutorials, if I think they'll teach me what I've been struggling to learn. Specifically, I want to know how to do progressive trance builds & breakdowns -- the rising pitches, the varying speeds, the white noise sweeps, etc. Mostly I'd describe these as atonal or non-harmonic or non-melodic sort of effects, as opposed to the chords, arpeggios, lead melodies, melodic embellishments, that define the key, the harmonies, etc. I feel pretty good at making melodies & harmonies & bass lines and even drum lines. It's those other effects, whether it's white notice, or a rising buzz sound that seems to pass through 2-3 octaves, or maybe a pulsing sort of zup-zup-zup...well, the precise stuff is different depending on the song at issue. I have read people talk about white noise sweeps or pitch risers or whatever, but I don't seem to find any FX that do that, so it seems there is not a single plug in that does each of these things, but rather you have to start off with a particular sound effect and then use functions like automation or sends from one track to another or envelopes or whatever...these are things I don't really understand.
Sorry for the long intro. I guess my question is actually kind of simple: Are there any tutorials that would seem to take some one very ignorant in using any advanced Reaper / sound production functions, and will show how to use that stuff SPECIFICALLY to do trance or electronica type atonal effects? The free Reaper tutorials I've found on YouTube seem almost entirely on other topics like recording guitar, getting phatter bass line, making beats, etc., none (or not enough) are really on point with what I want to learn. And I'm now desperate enough to pay to learn.
