Default DisplayLink USB display adapter and REAPER/DAW performance?

I'm considering getting a USB hub for my laptop with DisplayLink connected HDMI outputs. DisplayLink is a common standard for video over USB that's used with hubs and docking stations. My understanding is that DisplayLink relies on a software - i.e. not hardware accelerated - display driver, and on software video compression, to squeeze video over USB to an external HDMI output. I'm concerned about compatibility issues and possible impact on realtime audio performance.

Has anyone used a DisplayLink USB 3 display adapter with REAPER or any other DAW? Is the performance acceptable? Does the DisplayLink software display driver and video compression cause dropouts or laggy performance when working with realtime audio?

Thanks
