Default When is it enough loud? :\

Hello,

how could I measure when my track is enough loud, like the other club tracks... Have you any hint? I never know how much I should push the limiter :\

There's the "TT Dynamic Range meter" plugin, or you can measure it in just about any analyzer (like Voxengo SPAN) – even the Reaper master meter would be a (admittedly complicated) workaround.

What you want is a quick readout for the "crest factor", the difference of peak to RMS. That way you can compare your favourite squashed sounding club tracks with your own mastering attempts.

Listen to reference tracks and compare - that is the easiest way to decide.

Compile some reference music that you know works well.

I would think differently. Sure you can reference track to compare the perceived volume of your music. However does it sound good is the question? If not back whatever you are doing off to ensure you have not gone beyond the point where the negative trade offs trounce the perceived volume gain.

At first glance to the bottom half of your screen shot I thought "Oh, wow look at that cool custom effects menu he created". Then it dawned on me it's the top of the mixer. Duh.

Loud enough is peaks just under 0db with a good mix.

The loudness war ends when we stop playing.
