I don't know if it's a metal container that's giving it that snapping scissor cutting kind of sound

Here's a plastic LP egg shaker, with my hand wrapped tightly all around the egg (to mute the HF), low-passed and with a little transient shaping... not quite as crisp as your recording (and not played well in time), but perhaps indicates that the sound is possible with a plastic shaker and some manipulation.

Very interesting. If you took your plastic egg file and maybe added a little bit of phase shifter that might even get closer. I can see how processing might have something to do with it
