I have a question: will Reaper 3 have the "free selection" feature, I mean a la Pro tools smart tool?

Let's try some reverse motivation:

I doubt. They can't. Impossible.

sorry I dont clearly understand what you mean. Is it a new feature in the 3 alpha? cause it's definetly not in the 2.5 someting I'm using.

I'm talking about mouse free selection in items, you know like 99% of DAWz on the market, atually you have to use hotkeys and stuff and the loop is linked to it witch makes very little sense in my workflow.

If you dont understand what I mean chek this thread: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=18912

So my question is: can you do the "ProTools smart tools like selection" in reaper 3 alpha?

Perhaps it's a good time to revive these threads - (as just a bump from FR):

I'm starting to see what you mean, Jason. The behavior is much better relating to selection in this version. It would be good to have also some visual indication of the status of the cursor as to it's imminent effect on the current selection (for example: how a smart tool might change from a trim symbol to a grabber symbol before moving a selected item) [sorry to use the PT names] - (it doesn't need to be a hand - a scythe would be even better). A "threshing tool" in the Reaper's Almanac?
Thanks for pointing this out and to all the Reaper team support.

I dont try it cause I dont even know where to download it, + I dont really want to install it on my system, I'll install it when the official update will be available, I make music not beta testing.

If you dont want to tell (looks like you dont) mo power to you.

the instructions are in this thread. learn to read. if that is too time consuming for your huge music making schedule, then, well... that is your prerogative. Its a good idea to try it in case it IS there, but doesnt act the way you want.

So why are you here?

This is the alpha testing area & we are all trying it out and trying to help find issues.

Sorry dude but your attitude is not exactly helpful or furthering the cause.

Sit down, look out the window, take a deep breath, smiiiile.
Happy thoughts.
And good luck with the music making on 2.55.

I'm here cause I have a simple question about reaper 3, since your dudes are beta testing it I though (crazy me!) you could tell me. Instead of that I had a brunch of smart advices like "learn to read" or "sit down, look out the window".... Sorry but your attitudes are not exactly leading me to help the cause.

warning: if you dont want me to reply dont talk to me.

hey man all is good. it just seemed like you started this off with an attitude. I strongly suggest you get the latest beta... you can always roll back to an earlier version if need be.

... or better still install the alpha in a separate folder from 2.55, so that you can continue to use 2.55 for "real" work, while also being around to play around with the alpha when you want to.

haven`t read the whole thread, but these are my thoughts exactly ...
highly dissapointing for a major update, this sounds like a minor update ...
i mean, no real midi improovement, still some really basic workflow oriented things are not implemented ...

It is a minor update. From the previous alpha

To answer sinkmusic's question, there are more major features coming for 3.0 (we are not yet in feature freeze, bugfix only mode). Though as always the lack of a particular feature in 3.0 doesn't mean it won't be in 3.01.

schwa, that`s where it gets interresting ... let us know about the new features! i could wait patiently for 3.0 to come, if i`d only knew which of the freatures beeing requested a long time are to be in the release ... i.e. nested folders, rubberband editing in the controller lanes, item-linked realtime editable properties lane in the track view above the timeline, etc, etc ... so how about listing the new planned features, exept bugfixing (which is self evident) ...
shoot out!

A built-in drummer that shuts up, does what you tell him, and doesn't try to nail your girlfriend.

Default a little late to the party, but...

I finally got around to installing the latest test version of Reaper and all I can say is, WOW!! I've wanted to try to get involved in the testing earlier, but I just haven't had the time. I'll still be a little 'scarce' around here for about the next ten days, I'm scheduled for surgery in another week but Reaper is definitely a *mandatory* part of my recovery.

Did Nicholas 'jump out' any windows lately?? You guys got to be driving him slightly 'askew' with all these changes!!

Peace.

Can someone please explain what exactly is the problem? I've tried searching the forums, but I can't seem to find out.

Is it that Reaper doesn't accurately capture what you are playing on your controller?

Does this issue happen when recording MIDI to a track with a VST?

Is this also an issue in 2.55?

Thanks!
