and their associated actions like a custom action that contains the 5 associated actions:
Play From Mouse Position:
Snapping: Save snap state
Snapping: Disable snap
View: Move edit cursor to mouse cursor
Snapping: Restore snap state
Transport: Play

Not the best solution when you really need text, though.

I use the TextSnap feature of HyperSnap if I really need to grab the text instead of an image of it. http://www.hyperionics.com/ (Windows only)

Will bump this
Would be really useful simply as a reference, a way to post them on the forum and in cases of need to restore their contents, first of all of those containing scripts, because their command IDs may vary

I've been using Snagit by TechSmith to capture screenshots and text. It's $49.95 USA, which I think is expensive but works perfectly for I need.

All the actions associated with a specific custom action can be copied by selecting the given custom action in the Action list and from the right-click menu; Copy selected action text. But this has to be done separately for each custom action.

that's a great tip, xpander
and considering that this info is accessible in principle, i believe a script could do this and more, like extracting the scripts and actions command IDs as well

Command IDs can be copied the same way from the right-click menu.
The ReaperKeyMap files which are created when exporting some or all of the user edited content of the Action list do have all the script and custom action names, command IDs and edited shortcuts in there. But the actions themselves are listed only by their command ID. Example:
Code:
ACT 0 0 "2a0e8a646e8ee44c8a0b4930685e11d4" "Custom: Magic fade" 40514 40528 _SWS_AWFADESEL
These KeyMap files are just text files and I do remember faintly there being talk also in the past about some kind of an extraction app to be made for this...but my memory might fail me here.

Yes, indeed. One can use data from the custom actions .ReaperKeyMap dump to append to each action the list extracted manually and thus have a complete reference.
Maintaining it would be tedious though.
