Default Reaper won't play/record after last item.

Okay, I'm recording a guide track for my drummer. Recording guitar, everything going ok. Song has a lot of tempo changes, so I'm using master channel tempo envelope. Last thing a I did was record a take (or "item"). Happy with it. So put cursor at the end of the track/item, changed the BPM envelope appropriately.

Now when I hit play, the track will only play up to the end of the last item ( I haven't looped any sections with the markers etc).

If I put th play cursor past last item, as soon as I hit play the first note of the metronome clicks and then playback stops.

If go to the last item and duplicate it, reaper will play to the end of the duplicated item.

I removed tempo change point... No difference. It's as if reaper will not play or record anything After the last item.

Any ideas?

check the project preferences under advanced and ensure "limit project length" is not checked,

This is pretty much what I want REAPER to do; play the project to the end, and then stop. Why do you need it to go further?
And why not just insert an empty item, so forcing REAPER to play to the end of that item?

Reaper considers the end of the "latest" item in the project the end of the project. You can just create an empty item and drag it to wherever you want. Maybe even creating a marker will do it and/or several other methods but essentially that's why.

there is also an option in the playback prefs: stop/repeat playback at end of project

Just FTR, because it hasn't been adressed yet:
No matter how the settings are, Reaper will record just fine after the last item.
