An ignored art form
I have a good personal example that shows that music has no value today.
My brother is painter and yes he is skilled and sometimes sells a painting for quite a high price. Of course you do not make a new painting every day, every week or every month, wheras you could record about two new songs every week, even every day.
When my brother posts a new painting, he gets lots of replies from family, friends...
I rarely post a composition, but when I do, maybe three replies and I understand it,
because you could listen to a thousand new songs every day.
I would even say if Thriller was released today (without spending millions of dollars for promotion and paying
radio stations to play it like they did back in the day), no one would notice it.
I am not a MJ fan at all, but we all know Thriller was one of the best selling albums, that´s why I took this example.
Music has no value, but when there is eg a birthday party, they would ask me to play and perform. Next time I won´t play Stevie Wonder, Elvis, Prince, Clapton etc., I will show them a new old way to play music and perform some Mötley Crüe after two or three whiskeys (actually I do not drink a lot) haha
I do not perform often at birthday parties btw I did it last time for my mother and it was fun

There are different art forms - the picture is immediate while music requires one to listen through it

My brother can look at a painting for half an hour, I will never go to a gallery with him again haha
A song is only about 4 minutes !

My point is that comments he gets are more numerous since people see it and see it immediately, while to listen to music you first have to take free time, have listening equipment, probably be in a mood...

This. And paintings are more special and more unique, you will not see 1000 newly presented paintings every day. It is not a mass product like music.
When will Reaper integrate a painting function? , I would like to start painting my music haha

You may laugh, but jpg to audio is a thing, and media player visualisations are a thing, so audio to image is probably a thing, and someone has probably already made a VST.
I have a VST which pulls random Oblique Strategies cards, and I used to have a VST which plays chess (I had to get rid of it because I wasn't getting any work done).

There are more famous-rich musicians than painters. I can't even name a famous living painter. But few musicians or painters make a living from their art. Any field of art has always been a tough business with extreme "income inequality".
The business models are different. A copy of a painting has very little value. Copies of a recording have the same value as the original and the way you make money is by selling millions of copies (or by streaming billions & billions of copies ).

There are painters who can crank-out more than one painting a day but not many artists can sell one every day.

Promotion is one link in the chain or one piece of the puzzle and it's just as important as the other pieces. It's the one remaining thing you can't do at home on your own.
If Thriller was made today, and if music tastes were the same, and if if was promoted, it would be super-popular. In the end it was successful because people liked it and they bought it. But it probably wouldn't make as much money because not as many people are buying albums... Not as many people are buying music!

Why people bought Thriller, this could become a big topic. Of course the production was awesome, but you had no chance, not to hear about Thriller, it was everwhere all the time. Never before an album had that kind of huge promotion, also with adding an expensive production of Thriller song video. People are manipulated and influenced by promo and ads, otherwise promo would be waste of time and money.
For me that was the main reason never to buy Thriller, to make money with money is something I do not appreciate a lot. That's why Prince could get me, he did not hire and pay famous musicians, producers and mixing engineers and the movie Purple Rain was a low budget thing with almost no experienced or famous actors. Well, Prince had balls, well, MJ... no comment !
When Thriller was played the 10.000.000st time in radio, I could not hear it any more, I thought "is there no one keeping MJ in his place?! Purple Rain was released, my prayer was heard
