Default Is image masking possible in jsfx

im slowly getting my head around the gfx stuff!

is there a way i can have a background (image or colour), a gfx_rect() block of colour over that, and then maybe a black and white mask image so that anything that is white shows as the background and anything black shows the block of colour?

i was hoping that gfx_mode would help me but if it does, i've not found it.
