Default Where are all the Convolution Reverb IRs?

I'm late to the party on convolution reverbs. Just got Altiverb XL and am loving it. However, I've been looking for some hardware reverb unit IRs where all the links of places that were hosting them are now gone.

Anyone have any good resources to get some good IR hardware unit IR file downloads....preferably free? Trying to get ahold of some Lexicon PCM, TC Electronics, Eventide. Basically if it's an IR of a hardware unit...I want it. LOL!

Feel free to float some links my way if you have any you could share.

Oh, they're out there. Type "free Reverb impulse responses" in a search engine, you'll find a lot! I've gotten some Lexi's and others the same way...

You should easily be able to find the bricasti IRs online, but if you can’t, PM me and I’ll send them to you. Others, like the lex 960 and 480 are harder to locate, but I have them all if you want them.

I've been searching for hours, most of the leads I've followed have sent me on a goose chase to dead end links.

There's something I'm misunderstanding as well.

I found a couple Lexicon PCM reverb IR files on this website.
https://fokkie.home.xs4all.nl/IR.htm#PCM60

The problem is, I unzip them, throw them in my IR User folder and Altiverb 7 XL does not seem to recognize them.

I did find a good 480L IR here, which works great in Altiverb 7.
https://www.housecallfm.com/download...l-lexicon-480l

The 480L ones that are showing and working are using .AIF files, where the ones from the previous link use a .L and .R file, for example "Lex 200 06.L" and are not working in Altiverb 7. Unsure if it's a format Altiverb doesn't support or if they only worked in Altiverb 6.

I also downloaded the free ones on the Avid link previously. Those aren't showing up as working in Altiverb either. Are these files which aren't in .Aif or .Wav format proprietary to the different convolution Reverb plugins?

That would be great. A 480L was one of the few I could find. Would really like to get some of the Lexicon PCM as well as the Bricasti. I've chased link after link for those and have come up empty so far.

My thought was they were abundant in the past but all the websites that were actually hosting them are no longer active. Keep finding "error 404" sites.

Yes, I think the owner of the original site for the Bricasti IR files must have either died or had to shut down the site for legal reasons. I downloaded them years ago but noticed that all of the links appear to be broken now.

In addition to hardware reverb IR files, you might want to have some fun with the free EchoThief IR files of spaces available here: http://www.echothief.com/

I've used the JFK Airport underpass IR file on a few recordings and have tried many of the others.

Doesn't Altiverb come with literally everything already?

According to them:
"Vintage reverb gear
Altiverb contains a tremendous amount of classic reverb gear and purpose built echo chambers. You'll find all the EMT plates you want, spring reverbs, classic digital gear like the 480, 224, the AMS RMX 16 or the EMT 240. Add the Frank Sinatra and Beach Boys echo chambers and you have everything you need to recreate all those classic sounds."

It comes with a lot of cathedrals, churches, opera houses, and different spaces. It comes with a few vintage verbs where the only thing I think I'm really missing is some hardware reverbs that I enjoyed using in the past. Would like to get my hands on the following IR files to feel complete.

1. Any Lexicon PCM Reverbs
2. Any Lexicon M Series Reverbs (M200, M300)
3. Any TC Electronic Reverbs
4. Yamaha SPX990
5. Bricasti
6. Any Eventide Reverbs

I know they were out there in the past, free for the asking but having troubles tracking them down now.

Has the OP considered this forum's Resources? There's an entire sub-section dedicated to IRs.

Those are just "split stereo" files, and Altiverb (I'm assuming) doesn't deal with them. They're just the stereo files split into two files, a left and a right. You can toss them into any audio app and export or render as a single stereo file in whatever format Altiverb can use. Not familiar with it to know how it deals with standard formats, but if you had good fortune with normal AIFFs it would stand to reason it would take the split stereo impulses once they've been converted to single stereo AIFFs. Check the manual.

Thank you! I will give that a shot!

Ok, I figured it out. These *.L and *.R files are mono .SD2 (Sound Designer 2) audio files. I would need to convert them to a combined .Wav or .Aiff file. Oh...good grief! Gonna have to find some type of tool to some how batch convert them.

You used to be able to use iTunes for this by setting up a playlist, selecting all the files and converting them to .wav, but I don't see a "convert to .wav" option anymore in the Apple Music app that replaced iTunes. Alternatively the audio editor Amadeus Pro, which is about $60, has a batch converter and last I checked it can still read .sd2 files. That's a really old format, deprecated in 2009; most of the older converter apps that handled .sd2 files are gone but Amadeus should still work. If you want something free do some google searching or if you still have iTunes and didn't upgrade to the new app you should be able to use that.

Also, if you happen to already have Izotope RX, it can batch convert; it still reads .sd2 files.

Here are the Bricasti impulses:

https://web.archive.org/web/20190201...lse-responses/

You can also grab them in FLAC format from here:

https://x42-plugins.com/x42/x42-zconvolver, specifically, https://x42-plugins.com/tmp/samplicity-m7-ir.zip

Oops, sorry! Only checked one or two links. These may be of more help hopefully:

http://www.echothief.com/
https://fokkie.home.xs4all.nl/IR.htm
https://www.waves.com/downloads/free
https://www.waves.com/downloads/ir-c...erb-sweep-file

The waves offers need a (free) account with the last being the "sweep" that I believe is the preferred option if you want to record your own. Given that so may links are dead, that might have been quicker 😉 !

There's an SPX990 already in Altiverb :-)

Ahhh...Ha! I didn't see it because it was in the news section of a downloadable add-on.

Thanks for the tips. I haven't worked with SD2 files since 25 years ago and having to try and find a tool to convert them is now bringing back old bad memories. LOL!

I thought my preferred Media Player Media Monkey may do the job since it has batch and scripting support but seems it doesn't support SD2 audio files. Also tried RX7 audio editor and was a no go, must no longer support SD2. I found an online web converter which was able to convert SD2 to Wav, and that worked but is going to be a ton of work...convert from SD2 to .Wav online, download converted files, convert dual mono files to single Stereo .Wav, put all the files back in their original folder structure organization. Yuk!

I found this app which is able to convert SD2 to .Wav. I'm kind of shocked there's not a simple app which would allow you to load 2 separate mono files and convert it to a single stereo file. Seems like a lot of effort to do this in a DAW.

Rnr - check your google share drive. I uploaded several sets for you. Remember you have to use the “IR import” tab, and choose “without post processing.

Thank you! I can't wait to try these out!

Between hardware Convolution IR plugins and great sample based plugins like Kontakt and Superior Drummer, I feel my quests to find solutions inside the box for great sounding gear outside of the box is finally coming to a realization and I really appreciate your help sharing these with me.
