Default Smooth Seek on Recording.

Hi,

Smooth seek is amazing during playback, is it possible to get the same behavior when recording?

For live use, I want to be able to record the inputs as well as have smooth seek.

Thanks,
Keyo

I'm aware of this feature but it has disadvantages, no? It only records the master output, but I'd like to keep the input stems.

I see well what about 2 instances of Reaper with ReaRoute, using one just to record? I think you could even make the sends pre-fader if you wanted. Not against the FR but there's usually a way...

2 instances of Reaper? Doesn't Reaper only allow one instance at a time? I could run another instance in a Virtual Machine, though I think Smooth Seek on Record would be a much more "elegant" and viable solution for this.

Search "instance" in prefs if you want to run more than one.

You can even record into another project tab!
(It is undocumented feature, you just set rearoute_loopback=1 option in reaper.ini).

1) edit reaper.ini, in the [reaper] section, add a line:

rearoute_loopback=8

(you can do anywhere from 2 to 64 channels).

2) run reaper. You will now have loopback hardware outputs and inputs (you can output on one project tab, and read on another project tab).

On OSX you don't really give anything up, but on Windows this disables ReaRoute support.

There's one buffer block of latency for the output to appear on the input.

That's awesome! Why the hell are they keeping that feature a secret??

This is pretty cool but I still think that "Smooth Seek" on Recording would have advantages over this approach:
1) Simplicity
2) Less demanding of hardware, since this approach requires multiple more inputs / outputs.
3) Keep all the nice features of takes on a timeline.
4) Syncing with other tracks not armed for recording is done automatically. The other approaches would require either sending these additional tracks to be recorded (more hardware resources) or syncing in post (lotsa work).
5) Isn't dependent on ReaRoute being installed, which makes it compatible with portable installs of Reaper.
6) Doesn't involve editing of ini files to use undocumented features.
