I've only half-paid attention to this discussion - was it ever posted as a bug report? Even though I can look at the .gif in the OP and understand why Reaper's doing that to the envelopes, it's 100% not an expected or sensible behavior. It shouldn't be an FR.

Well, at least to me area selection / range selection is way more than just being able to copy / paste data. It's the whole flexibility of the tool. So, I'm not sure if a bug report will suffice.


In the following example (Cubase), you can precisely choose which lanes should be range selected and then copied:

Studio One:

not quite as flexiable as Cubase. It will always move/copy *ALL* automation data, when you select the event (item):

Indeed, the method in Cubase is the best IMHO.

Would like to see a statement from Cockos if they ever have plans to integrate this powerful and intuitive Cubase selection method workflow.

Some of the AI actions already work with non-contiguous lanes, particularly Ctrl+drag and Duplicate.

I therefore hope that it would be straightforward to apply the Ctrl-drag code to all other copy/paste actions too. At the moment (AFAIK), copy/paste only works on single lanes.

Here is an example of what can easily be done with Ctrl-drag, but not with normal copy/paste:

I am not sure about this. For a range selection like in cubase the big development issue is the continous version, after it's a question of time/effort make it non continuous, but might not take so much more time. Anyway! A continuous feature would enough at least for me.

Cubase has non continuous too! It's the most complete area/range selection as far as i know : continous or not.
in cubase continuous range born in Version 5 (i think), (like in the video), and then in version 6 or 7, non continuos happened.

And if you see, non continuos is several continuos ! so the jobs can be done with just continuous which is what matters! Also is worth mentioning in almost all situations the time to do the job with continuos or non continuous is basically the same.

Nope, Cubase is always contigious. You can't have gaps.
It's always the same selection for all items.

Here is a bit of what it says:

Making selection ranges for several non-contiguous tracks:
You can create selection ranges that cover several tracks. It is also possible to exclude tracks from a selection range:

1. Create a selection range from the first to the last desired track.

2. Press [Ctrl]/[Command] and click in the selection range on the tracks that you
want to exclude from the selection.

3. In the same manner,you can add a track to the selection range by [Ctrl]/[Command]-clicking in the selection range area on the track.

This shouldn't require an incredible amount of coding, seeing that we already have half of area duplication FR by using Regions. Regions gives us Area Duplication in the horizontal direction, but without the vertical. It works perfectly, but duplicates EVERY track in the selected time rather than just the 'selected' ones.
