Ambisonics advice
Hi,
I have pre-rendered 8-channel audio, I listen to it on a custom 8-speaker circle array on one horizontal plane. i want to import those 8-channel WAVs into reaper, encode to ambisonics to be able to apply some of the ambisonics plugins available (IEM, ATK). How would I go about that? I create an 8-channel track with an ambisonics encoder as FX and put my 8-Channel wavs on it? Then I add the Ambisonics FX I want (compressor, reverb) on that same track and how do I get it to export/decode an 8-channel "circle" again? any help would be amazing. Thanks! |

Yes, the IEM MultiEncoder is perfect for the conversion, but you will have to set the tracks channels number to match the order you will use, not the file one.
Avoid the ATK, they are nice but limited to 1st order which is not acceptable in most cases, except of course for processing 1st order microphones files. If this is for processing and to return to channel based at the end, you will better use 7 th order / 64 channels to keep to original spatial accuracy. At the end of the processing you will have to put an IEM AllRADecoder to hear or render it to your speakers. BTW, why do you need the ambisonics conversion for ? If it is for compression or reverberation it could be better and simpler to use 8 channels plugins, but yes, they may not be free... |

Thanks for the reply, very helpful.
I will try to set my reaper session up like that. I could not find 8-Ch reverbs or compressors, what are good ones? (don't need "free") Thanks again. |

https://www.meldaproduction.com/effects For the reverbs, there is also the great Exponential Audio : https://www.izotope.com/en/products/...o-reverbs.html and Flux/IRCAM : https://www.flux.audio/project/ircam-verb-v3/ but also some lesser known and less expensive as : http://www.virsyn.de/de/Products/REFLECT/reflect.html https://nuspaceaudio.com/2018/01/22/...rround-reverb/ A nice up to 16 channels compressor is Tone Boosters' Barricade : https://www.toneboosters.com/ |
