Default $20.00 for Concert Strings at Kirk Hunter - on sale!!

Hi,

Kirk Hunter sample libraries are having a 50% off sale.

www.kirkhunterstudios.com/

I just bought the "SOLO STRINGS"s (not "concert Strings - sorry for the incorrect subject line) for $20 and I got great solos bass, cello, viola...and a ton of great violins!!!
They sound absolutely superb...and they only cost $20.00

It's the best $20 I've spent in a long tine.

Perhaps you folks might want to take advantage of this sale!

Peace,
K8ch

Concert Strings 3 is 500$ usually and 250$ discounted, concert Strings 2 is 400$ not discounted and 200$ discounted.

I think you are missing a 0...

I agree - $399 on the site for CS2 makes it $200.

HOPING WE MISSED SOMETHING HERE....

Default Solo Strings - not "Concert Strings". So sorry...my fault!

So sorry...

Yes, Solo Strings...not "Concert Strings" were $20.00
Very sorry about the misinformation.
Yikes.

Still...great value.

And, yes, it requires a full version of Kontakt.

Again...I'm very Sorry about that!

Most everything I seen on the site requires the Kontakt Full Version which I do not have and Kontakt Full Version is not on sale.

Yeah, that's the problem with Kirk Hunter. Kontakt Full is expensive

That's kind of unfair. The small sample instrument developers have to use someone else's powerful sample engine.
If they pay for a license to make their product a library product (which means it will work in Kontakt Player) the cost skyrockets.
You have the option of a one off payment to NI for use of the engine then you can buy this type of relatively cheap sample instrument.
If you look at 8Dio their Kontakt offerings are massively more expensive.

Hm.... the demo of both pizz and arco DB is er unconvincing, assuming they are showing off their "best" and since that is the only instrument out of those on offer that I can actually play, I would like others opinions on the rest.

I know it is only 20 bucks, but.....also wondering how they work recorded as a section???

Aw scratch that - fourteen UK pounds... what have I got to lose?

Bought.

Crossgrade using Drum Mica in Summer sale.
Suggest you look again at Kontakt5 in coming weeks. The 50% off Summer Sale will be coming around, assuming they have another one.

If I remember correctly the samples are not looped, no round robin etc.

I see it from the opposite perspective. Kontakt is more or less expensive (though there are sales), but once you have it, it opens up a whole vast universe of options.

I'd rather developers not pay the fees to NI for the free player and then pass the savings on to us. I bought Spotlight Strings for $63 and am extremely happy with it.

Funny thing is, the gipsy fiddle was what tipped me - I am about 3/4 of the way through writing my first ever french-language song and it needs both accordion and fiddle.
Come to think of it, if I added bagpipes, I would have the perfect November 5th song!

The Diamond Orchestra at half price might be the best bang for the buck orchestra on earth. It includes the solo strings.

I'd second this. It's not the easiest to use and it's poorly documented, but if you're willing to invest the time to get to grips with it you can get excellent results.

The sample instruments might be rather basic in terms of how they have used the technology (in this older example) but some of the Kirk Hunter demo's on his sight are more convincing musically (to my ears) than most sample product demo's on the more glossy sites.

I would have gone for that but didn't fancy trying it with my 2 meg broadband.

I bout some stuff... downloading was an absolute nightmare, using them is also a pain (no library, manually browsing for kontakt patches)

Sound wise I kind of like it... kind of gritty... but layout, download, aND all other parts of the experience was a nightmare.

So if I had to rate these, I'd say:

Sound : 7/10

User experience : 2/10

Hard to feel like I got good value when I spent 6-7 hours downloading a few files at a time (or they would time out)

So I had to be present at the computer every few minutes to start the next batch... 3-4 downloads at a time for the ~200 I needed for the 3 libraries I got

Then manually extract the ~200 zips

Then manually go through tons of kontakt "instruments" that are in those folders looking for the actual instruments.. many of which don't have actual interfaces(or settings).

That said, I might have found a brass library that fits my sound, or atleast will blend with other libraries to help.

Well...I decided to spend another $100 and get the Diamond Symphony Orchestra (which included the solo violin/cello/viola).
They gave me an additional $$$$ credit for the DSO because of the duplication)

Yes..absolutely right! The download took a long time because of the slow transfer rate. So, I can definitely empathize. Maybe it was slow because a lot of people were taking advantage of the sale and downloading a the same time???
I was hoping to listen to the instruments on that same day...but the download lasted long into the evening...so, that was a disappointment.
Once I unzipped it and copied it to my Kontakt files (and made backups), all worked fine.

I think the sounds will supplement the few libraries I already have, really well.
Hopefully, your user experience will get better, over time and that it will have been worthwhile.

Peace,

K
