Yes, they do, but in the Reaper 5 way, which means that only parts of the panels are colored, not the whole of them.

In this update, I allowed the coloring of the track labels in the MCP panels and a narrow strip on the right of the TCP ones.
I hate to be a pita - I really do. But, I've just dl'd the latest version and it does not take any color anywhere.

The coloring is done via layouts, the default display in both TCP and MCP being the uncolored one of the previous versions. Looking at the layouts lists, you should see several - colored ones.

They work as expected, here, so let me know how things are on your end.

Ahh-HA! I've never seen it done that way before. Very cool.

Thanks for your help, and as I've said previously, thanks for this very excellent work.

This is becoming my primary theme. You've done an incredible job at capturing the 'feel' of the studios that I first started recording in, way back in the mid 1960's. Thank you.

This looks sweet. cubic13, are you still updating this? I selfishly ask because I'd want my theme to be a long relationship. ;-)

Hi, Tommy

Yes, I will probably update it in one or two months. I am finishing something else, presently, but it is taking me more time than expected.

Concerning Abbey Road I was thinking, among others, about getting rid of the red color of both label and index when the track is selected and, maybe, trying to reduce several graphic objects to make it more usable with small monitors. But this implies a lot of graphic work, so...

Meanwhile, if you have any suggestion...

Default AbbeyRoad2 is in the stash...

... and actually, it's a scaled down version of the old one, as most of the controls and backgrounds have been reduced to allow a more comfortable use of this theme with, at least, 1080 vertical resolution monitors. This, with added enhancements :

- a more achieved tcp and transport bar managements, with several adjustments made here and there.
- a correction of the 'hide' control behavior for the envelope panels with narrow heights.
- Several redesigned gen controls, with the addition of dedicated table ones.
- Few additions and changes concerning the bundled toolbars.
- the implementation of recently added theming features (_norec files...).

Overall it's an almost completely redesigned version, from which the new entry in the stash. I keep for now the initial 1.x version in it but will no longer update it, this one taking its place.

The related link is in the updated first post of this thread. Hope some of you will enjoy using this theme...

Thanks, +NRG. It's appreciated...

Beside this, there is a little bug concerning the master track in the arrangement window : when narrowing the width of its panel, the volume control changes too late its shape from a fader to a knob. I'll include the fix for a future update. In the meantime, it is solvable this way :

1) Change the AbbeyRoad2 theme file (the .ReaperThemeZip one) extension to .zip, Unzip it and open the rtconfig.txt file, which is in the AbbeyRoad2 images folder, with a raw text editor such as Notepad++.
2) Edit the line #280 from this :
Code:
set master.tcp.volume.fadermode w<375 [1] [-1]
to get this :
Code:
set master.tcp.volume.fadermode w<390 [1] [-1]
3) Save the editing done and rezip both the .ReaperTheme file and the images folder together and put back to the resulting file the .ReaperThemeZip extension again.

Still wondering how I didn't see this one...

Thanks, silksow . I'll probably upload an update in the days (or weeks) to come that will solve, of course, the issue described in the post #132.

Actually, I also don't like the color I first choosed for the MIDI editor background : if there is any suggestion for it...

Default AbbeyRoad2 (v 2.10) is in the stash...

A little update which mainly fixes two bugs, both involving the tcp master track and were in need of a quick solution, I think :
- When narrowing the panel, the volume control was changing too late its shape from a fader to a knob.
- On the default layout, the vertical meter was displayed 18 pixels too far on the right, making it almost invisible.

Beside this :
- few little graphic changes on some controls,
- some color changes in the main window and in the MIDI editor,
- addition of two icons for the Toolbar1. From which, this one should be updated as well as the theme file.

Let me know if some things are still misbehaving. Thanks...

Hi Cubic
I like the graphic work in this theme.
One small problem I have noticed (sorry if it was mentioned already but I have not read the thread ) Project Save toolbar icon - Has save occured? Could it flash green on registering command or something? Mouse click button state action.

(I admit I have not used this theme much but I did check out earlier version and admired it's tonality/lines and your vision.)

Thanks

Hi, prom

You're right, I didn't pay attention enough about this, I admit. So, could you test this again with the attached graphic file of this post ? Just in case, here is how to do so :

1) unzip the AbbeyRoad2.ReaperThemeZip file. You should have an AbbeyRoad2.ReaperTheme file and an AbbeyRoad2 folder which contains all the graphic files.
2) In the latter, replace the existing toolbar_save.png file with the one attached in this post.
3) Rezip BOTH the AbbeyRoad2 folder and the AbbeyRoad2.ReaperTheme file together and change the extension of the resulting zip file to .ReaperThemeZip again.
4) Place it back in the \ColorThemes subfolder of your Reaper installation.

Let me know if the icon works as expected. HTWH...

Hi Cubic

Yes, that png did the trick.

Button does now indicate save action clearly when selected/clicked.

Thank you!

yo! beautifully designed and well-thought out theme. THank you.

I'm wondering how I can add more clarity to the engaged buttons in my toolbar? In this screenshot the speaker, key, and reverse 'Play' buttons are all engaged, but as you can see the contrast is poor. They go from white to like a very, very pale whitish green. Difficult to tell.

Any way I can alter this with your theme?

nice theme! two things.

1) any way to get the meter's display colored instead of grey? i.e. gradation from green through yellow to red?

2) any way to make indication of selected track more visible?

Hi, d. gauss

1) About the meters color, I prefer it as it is now but I'll try to post, as an attachment, the necessary files for an alternate meters aspect in the following days. So, stay tuned...

2) Concerning the selected tracks, sorry, but it's going to be difficult. I absolutly want to preserve the overall aspect of both the tcp and mcp aspects, for two reasons. First, the overall work would take several days to change their tints and, more critical, the result would be that the theme wouldn't fit in the stash, even with a drastic compression. The only thing I could do is to change the color or the width of the line surronding them : let me know which color and width would suit your need...

Love this theme! Would it be a lot of trouble to get the MCP tracks to "indent" at the bottom when they are in folders? Then I could actually use it! Thanks for your efforts!

Hi again, d. gauss

Attached are the files that should replace the existing ones in the theme. For doing so, here is the procedure :
1) Change the AbbeyRoad2.ReaperThemeZip extension of the theme file to AbbeyRoad2.Zip and unzip it.
2) In the resulting AbbeyRoad2 folder, replace the existing file with the new one.
3) Zip again both this folder and the AbbeyRoad2.ReaperTheme file.
Should do the trick...

EDIT 2 - forget the previous one (deleted) : in the second step above, actually BOTH files need to be installed, replacing the eventual existing ones, this, both in AbbeyRoad2 folder and also in its TCPHorizMeters subfolder. Sorry...

@woogish
Thank for your interest, but no, it isn't doable. The first reason is that this is a kind of hack which I never tried to reproduce on one of my themes, simply because I'm still wondering what does it actually brings, contrarily to the indentation available in the arrange window.
Worse than that, it would completely destroy all the 'indented' strips graphical appearance, and even if it could be more or less solved (I'm not even sure about that), it would take me at least, few weeks to make all this reliably functional again. And, as I no longer use Reaper since one year, I hope that you'll understand that I'm not that much motivated to do so, sorry...

@ivansc

Hi, Ivan

Well, I went back to the one with which I have grown, talking about DAW/computer musical use : Cubase (more precisely, Cubase Pro 10.0.60 as I'm writing this). I've been an user of Pro-24 then Cubase with my Atari 1040 ST, a loooooong time ago... last summer, it was the 30th Cubase anniversary, with a 50% rebate offer : 100 € for a full upgrade from my still six years old Cubase 7 licence. Even if I wasn't expecting a lot of it, I took the jump, being increasingly frustrated with the daily basis usage of Reaper.

We're on a slippery ground here, as it can quickly degenerate to a DAW1 vs DAW2 debate. So, let's say it is essentially about the workflow. This, with several tools and features that, even after few years of Reaper usage, were still missing for me, mainly : Input transformer, Control room, Retrospective record, Generic remote definitions, inspector, input tracks, external instruments manageable as VSTis, presets available directly in the tcp panel, etc.

To sum it up, I've never been truely able to use Reaper as efficiently as Cubase and life is short : I'll be reaching 60 years next december, so I no longer have the time to scratch my head for things as simple as splitting a MIDI item without cutting the notes underneath. I have seen recently in a post here that there are no less than 3000 existing and publicly available scripts : this says it all...

More generally, and as this is the theming subforum, maybe it is more relevent at this point to state why I gave up theming in the process, beside inquiries as easy to solve as the recent d. gauss one (post #142) or eventual more urgent things. Mainly (list not exhaustive) :
- There are still no way to have more than a two degrees layouts nesting in Walter, when using the normal .ReaperThemeZip theme format.
- UI related : we are still unable in a reliable way to choose by right clicking the layouts related to a given UI component : as an example, doing so on a given tcp panel allows it, but try to do the same thing on the master track tcp or transport ones...
- The overall layouts submenu is a mess, with no way to make a kind of hierarchical presentation of them : only the alphabetical order is allowed.
- The documentation is getting more and more outdated, and I am still waiting for a clear document stating how to set variables such as tinttcp or peaksedges (Reaper 5, 2015...). This without talking about the HiDPI mess...
- There are still graphical components inexplicably missing : I've been waiting during more than five years to see mcp_master_fxparm_*.png files, as well as true image files for each and every transport panel controls.
- The additional windows such as the FX one are still not themable, AFAIK.
- The behavior of the master track in the mixer : beside the strange indentation of it, the strip doesn't behave reliably as the other tracks ones. I stumbled too much times on its very specific way of being displayed.
- The issues related to the mcp_senlist_*.png components, especially the 'meter' one : a nightmare to set properly in an empirical way as, again, the documentation is lacking.
- The strange display issues arising when trying to graphically set true generic gen_volthumb/gen_knob components : these are displayed as expected in some windows using them but not in others...

Meanwhile, there has been the 'free reordering' of the tcp panel components which nobody talk about longer, these days, and available only if our average user is prone to carefully edit the rtconfig.txt file : I'm still waiting to see a theme using this, beside the countless Reaper 5 default theme mods. And the best is now the lua script (yes, another one...) for the 'theme adjuster' which is actually piled up over the 'theme tweaking' one. Again, I'm really wondering how many themes will used all this in an actual and efficient way, beside the inevitable countless default theme mods that will appear during the Reaper 6 cycle. I simply no longer have the time to dwell on all this...

To sum it up and ending the rant : I think that Cockos headquarters have completely lost it, for everything related to theming...

@wallace

Hi, wallace

I suspect that you still have the first version (which is no longer updated), as everything evoqued in this post has been improved in a way or another in the AbbeyRoad2 version, available here, and released two months after it...

Many thanks cubic13.
I’m sure your well reasoned response above will positively add to the ongoing debate in this space.
Kind regards.

Funny... years ago I bought an Atari ST specifically to try out Pro24 & couldnt get on with it, coming from Bars n Pipes Pro on an Amiga 500.

And despite years with Cakewalk Sonar and now Reaper, I can definitely relate to your wanting to go back to that comfy old armchair... in many ways I still yearn to get back to my smooth and easy workflow on BPP.
Bill Gates bought the BPP devs out to work on directX years ago, sadly.

Indeed, it's more or less my comfy old armchair, but Cubase 10 isn't exactly what was Pro-24 or BPP, though...
This said, I'll probably renew my Reaper licence at some point (I'm still on 5.99, with a licence renewal to do for the 6+ versions), even if I didn't see yet a good reason to upgrade, especially when, talking specifically about theming, I see the still lacking features evoked in my previous post, the HiDPI mess and the added 'themer adjuster' : not really tempted to look at all this further again...
I'll keep Reaper as an 'emergency DAW', in the case Steiny gets the bad idea of dropping what remains of VST 2.x support...

Tant mieux! I just wish I had never sold my Amiga 1200 to a guy in Switzerland who cornered the market for them! There were so many things I loved about the last version of AmigaDos.
