Default Reaper shows total oblivion after installing v5.211

After installing v5.211 Reaper asks me each time I start it to choose the sound device. Also preferences are reset to default, List of last projects ist empty. This is the first time this happend, I installed 20-30 version since start using reaper.

I am never logged in with admin rights, so I install with "open as administrator" from context menu. Usually when asked to run reaper after installation, I click "no" because my preferences are stored for my normal user. This time I clicked "yes" by mistake. In the past this never resulted in persistent problems.

I rolled back to version 5.21, 5.201, 5.18, but the behavior remains. I guess the solution might be to delete some corrupted ini files, but I don't know which one and where they are.

Asking kindly for help, as it is no fun having to configure all preferences each time I start reaper.

Try a portable install - it should reset everything to factory settings and you can go from there. Once you are sure it is all OK compare the reaper.ini file with your old one and see what changed.

Thanks for this advice. Finding the ini file was actually my problem, but now as I know it's name I will find it's location.

If you can open reaper and navigate to the "show reaper paths" option that makes it all pretty easy.
You HAVE downloaded the manual, havent you?

:-) Yes I download the manual as frequently as the SW. Indeed I found the hint there. The solution was to delete REAPER.ini in the Programme directory. After that my users individual reaper.ini was recognized again and my preferences, list of last projects, etc appeared again.
