What kind of music are you looking to create?

Marvin VST has Tromine6, Tromine8, and Tromine9, which are TR-606, TR-808, and TR-909 emulations respectively. Good for house/techno/rap.

MT Power Drumkit has a decent acoustic drum sound, and also has a lot of loops built in.

You can also just load multiple instances of ReaSamplomatic5000, load samples into each one, and assign them to different notes.

I use Jamstix. You can get the free version and see if it fits what you're looking for.

although you said midi, you might want to do what other folk rockers or americana rockers do, and that is, build a foot-stomp box with a small cymbal/hat, and record this as analog.

by foot-stomp box, I mean, a box made out of wood, and you stomp on it, and it makes a thump. and you mic this and EQ it, to sound like your preferred kick/snare (depending on where you stomp).

the small cymbal/hat can be a coffee can with a pedal/beater, also mic'ed. I've seen similar stuff used live.

there's howto videos online for how to build this stuff.

The importance of this real analog instrumentation is because folk rock may require a "groove feel" and using midi will be very strict feel which may sound unnatural in that genre. you can still record long loops of percussion, and have your own fixed grooves, a backing track, when a pre-recorded drum is needed.

just an idea...

I use this one a lot https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?p=1288785
It is not a "drum machine" as such, but uses Reapers native ReaSamplomatic plugin. I think the sounds are good.

You also have this one https://smmdrums.wordpress.com/for-reaper/
Again, using ReaSamplomatic. Great sounds. But huge.

I'm currently using the free version as my main drumkit. It might be a bit heavy for folk-rock as it is definitely a rock oriented kit. However you can send every instrument in the kit to a separate channel in reaper and process everything individually, so that might do the trick to get it where you want it.

It's a little bit of ground work, but I love ReaSamplomatic for drums.

Kenny has good videos on building a basic drum machine: http://reaper.fm/videos.php Specifically under the "MIDI & Virtual Instruments" section. There's a number of them. One of them even has a link to an extensive drum library, iirc. In addition, I really like the "MPL ReaSamplomatic5000 Manager" by MPL to make ReaSamplomatic5000 a lot more powerful and easy to use. Of course this all takes some time to put together, yourself. I might have to check out the first link, above!
