Monitor Midi Input Signal
Hi, Reaper newbie here, Logic user of 15 years.
In Logic, when I hook up my little Akai USB Midi keyboard, it recognizes it right away and the transport displays the MIDI signals being received when I press keys, even if there are no MIDI tracks to record to.
How can I monitor incoming MIDI signals in Reaper?

You need to monitor-arm a track with input device set to the midi keyboard. (rightclick record-button to see all the options).
Cool idea with the transport display tho. I think Cubase also has this.

Thank you very much Dstruct! Now I see the red meter showing keystrokes.
Is there a way to display the exact midi signals coming into Reaper? Some sort of event list with all the note-ons, note-offs, controllers, etc?

There's a JS plugin for that. Can't think of the name of it off hand. MIDI monitor or something.

Okay, I've got the ReaControlMIDI plugin up with "Show Log", but it's blank. I still do see the red meter moving when I play notes on the keyboard.

Good looking out Dstruct – at first I did have it on the wrong track when I tried at first, but no, it's definitely on the same track that is armed and showing the red midi meter movement when I play.

You've got the track armed to record, but do you have record monitoring on? That will make a difference.
