2.5 will be out after I've found out what changes to text/HiDPI 6.04 were made, as that could either help or hinder the changes I've been making for OSX/Windows.

Anyone know?

Hi bose! Loving your theme here. Just wan't to say a big thank you!

Only issue I'm having is the text toolbar fonts are too small/hard to read on my sytem (win 64, 1920x1080. Reaper 6.03)
I had to sed HiDPI mode to unaware for it to display correctly too.

Cheers!

I agree. On Windows this theme is just not what the screenshots show.

It is on my two Windows installations. Screenshot?

Remember that 2.5 will have Fira Sans (you probably have Open Sans atm).

Is there a way to have smooth meters rather than the segmented style in the theme?

With respect, it's not that. I have Fira installed. The problems are, the transport text is massive huge font, unreadable. Second, the toolbar text icons are incredibly small. Messy and jagged. This does not happen with any other theme including the default 6 theme. I've done no modifications, just default reaper 6 theme and switching to your smooth theme for windows. The regular Smooth suffers as well. Sorry. Thanks for taking a look at this.

This is just one example.

I'm sorry, but Fira is installed and this is way too small and jagged to be usable. It's not a OS font issue as I mentioned because other themes look just fine with aliasing and smoothing.

It shouldn't be using Fira, 2.1 is Open Sans.

You're using Windows, 1080P or HiDPI?

What I meant was, I have both fonts installed All defaults sets. Windows 10 with a 1080p monitor yes. Thanks.

Strange, having a hard time seeing that. Can you do me a favour? Make sure you can see the small text, then open the Theme Tweaker (via Actions list) and enter 'font' in the filter bar...

Change fonts 1-9 one by one (just increase the size to 28 or something obviously large) to see which font entry changes the fonts causing you an issue.

Don't worry, all you need to is reload the theme to reset the fonts.

This will help me get it fixed sooner and ready for 2.5 release!

--------------------------------------------------------

I don't like to wade into people's theme threads and start telling them what's what, because obviously that's very rude and if the theme maker and his users don't think its got problems then who cares? However, since I haven't documented the HiDPI stuff yet, I hope you will allow me an exception this once because there's no way you'd know, and you could help me refine how I communicate these new things

Since you're not doing 150% assets (and good god, fair enough) you can strip out all of the 150% walter, so you're not presenting layouts to the user that don't make any sense.

at the top:
Code:
misc_dpi_translate 134 150
misc_dpi_translate 174 200

...can be...

misc_dpi_translate 151 200
...otherwise Reaper will rescale the miscellaneous non-Walter stuff at intermediate sizes to 150, which isn't a size you're doing, so weirdness will result.

You can also kill all the layouts that point to the 150 folder like this:
Code:
Layout "150%_B" "150"
...because you don't have a 150 folder. They will result in re-rasterized bitmaps, and that'll look yukky.

You can also kill all the 75% layouts in 'DUMMY LAYOUTS' because they only exist so that dpi_translate has something to point at.

Finally, in the DPI translation itself, you can do a big'ol cleanup, because that's mostly concerned with the 75%/150% stuff.

so, for example:
Code:
layout_dpi_translate '50%_A' 1.0 'A'
you need those lines, so that 1.0 scale users get something when they choose 50%

Then for each layout you'll want :
layout_dpi_translate 'A' 1.5 '200%_A'
to say "if the user is above 1.51% scaling, give them the HiDPI goodness"
...and then kill all the rest of it.

I haven't looked at your theme adjuster changes, but if you haven't done so make sure you remove the 150% apply buttons. You shouldn't need to mess with the code, just kill the button, that should be fine.

-------------------------

I would also suggest you make it more clear that this is a mod of the default 6 theme, and of which version of that theme it is modded from. There will be fixes / code alterations to the default throughout its lifespan, and they will almost certainly be applicable to your mod as well, and if you're not around someone else could splice them in, maximising its longevity.

That's incredibly helpful - thanks for taking the time WT, much appreciated.

Yes, will do.

I'll give this these changes a shot...

I ran into a small issue every now and then:
Sometimes, when using the zoom tool, the TCP tracks display all the elements way too big.
If I scroll a little they pop back to normal size.
It seems random, couldn‘t find a way to reproduce it.
Maybe it has to do with White Ties suggestion to dump the 150% stuff?
Let me know if you need screenshots - it‘s a bit of a PITA with the image size restrictions here.

Best

Is this intentional, if I have a VST/AU with multiple outputs it seems to make the mixer strip wider than normal. Ideally, I just want all the channels to be the same width and not go wider....

Hi!
Use the Theme Adjuster Script to disable Multitrack-Metering in the MCP panel.

I was also having this problem on Windows 1080p, so I did the above and think I found the issue.

It's not any of the Walter fonts. It's the "Volume/pan label font". It has nothing assigned to it. If I choose Open Sans with a size of 7, it looks correct.

Wondering if maybe I am doing something wrong while trying to use Smooth_6_Windows_Dark on Reaper x64 Win 10 x64. I have a 4k ASUS Monitor running native 2560x1440 dpi with Brightness and Contrast both at 50. Windows is set to Dark Mode.

I had been using "LCS_Luna_Gray" and it was nice and dark as you can see in the first attachment 2020-0228_Reaper_Luna.png

I followed the three part instructions that came with Smoothe6 2.1 to install the fonts, lua scripts, and then Theme files. When I switch to Smooth_6_Windows_Dark everything is quite washed out as you can see in attachment 2020-0228_Reaper_S6WinDark.PNG.

I tried all four Theme files that came with the bundle and they all look this way.

I really want to use this excellent theme, but am concerned that I have something installed incorrectly since all four of them appear quite similar, and the Dark ones are definitely not what I would consider dark.

Any ideas might be useful, thanks!

FWIW this morning I tried a fresh never used portable installation of 6.04 and installed the Smooth 6 theme into it. It looks the same sort of washed out. Selecting between Smooth6, Smooth6_Dark, Smooth6_Windows, and Smooth6_Windows_Dark doesn't seem to change anything.

I stuck with my previous theme into R6 for familiarity, but really want to move the R6-compatible themes. Unfortunately both Default 6 and Smooth 6 are all washed out whereas R5 themes all seem as dark as them should be.

FWIW I believe that the theme I currently isn’t working correctly in Windows and that bose is now working on creating separate Windows and OSX versions to remedy the issue. As this is simply a generous labour of love from bose (and those helping him) there’s no specific timeline when that will be completed.

Also FWIW I get the same behaviour you’re describing on my WIN10 machine.

The quality of the screenshot is terrible but in terms of being 'washed out' that is just the design and colour choice elements from what I can see in the upload. Nothing actually incorrectly functioning. It isn't a high contrast type theme really but you can change all the colours to make everything darker.

No one theme is going to be perfect and since people have different uses for Reaper and workflows, customising a theme further to your liking is almost mandatory. Some tweaks I've made to this include reducing the bevel effect on the tracks, since with a small number of tracks it's pretty but approaching 100 or more it's more functional to strip that back and remove with a flat design.

what is missing from from LCS_luna_Gray when used in Reaper 6?
Have you tried LCS_Luna_SE or LCS_Mahina_SE?

Please answer these questions in the threads for those themes instead of here to help reduce off-topic noise for b0se.

Ok good to hear. I'll be patient then. This is an incredible looking theme and I will be following b0se's progress! Was a bit confused that the only real difference I saw was the fonts change between the "Windows" and 'nonwindows' versions of the Theme.

Totally agree. Given that I compared it to the Default 6 and see similar colors I have no problem getting into the Theme files and tweaking.

And FWIW, the screenshot is terrible because I had to get it under 64 KB to attach to a post.

Basically I think I just want the 'dark' areas on the MCP tracks, FX Lists, and Send Lists to be darker. I've not sure how to go about doing so but I can do some research here to see what I can figure out. I suspect it has something to do with recoloring some of the _bg images in the ReaperThemeZip file.

Try editing theses files:

Was a good start thank you! I didn't touch TCP but ended up darkening the following:
mcp_bg.png
mcp_bgsel.png
mcp_extmixbg.png
mcp_extmixbgsel.png
mcp_master_volbg.png
mcp_volbg.png
meter_bg_mcp.png
meter_bg_v.png
meter_clip_v_rms2.png
meter_clip_v.png

A few minor tweaks to colors in the Theme Tweak window and I'm nicely pleased with it! Thanks for the ideas!

It's not any of the Walter fonts. It's the "Volume/pan label font". It has nothing assigned to it. If I choose Open Sans with a size of 7, it looks correct.

Yes, i set Volume/pan label font to segue (or something like that) and now it's nicely workable. (I had to change walter font 1 too, because track inputs texts was kind of blurry)

Mainly just waiting on Bose and v2.5

Gonna wait to see what's in store for that update, as he's been doing a lot it seems.

I'm new to Reaper so I might be have go it all wrong but did you by any chance replaced the folder and deleted the original content when you installed the theme?

Do you have the folder
REAPER\Scripts\Cockos\Default_6.0_theme_adjuster_i mages
?

The images folder is there and works with the default 6 theme adjuster.

hm...strange, and it contains 158 items?

I did a fresh portable install and added Smooth v2.1 and the theme adjuster launched fine in all of the versions. Running Reaper 604 win7 x64...

I would have guessed missing the files in question in the folder, but if those file are there...which I assume since you say it works with the default adjuster, well then I have no clue...

Edit: i'm running 1080p btw
