Default MIDI plays while moving items around

Maybe there is an option anywhere I don't know. When I move MIDI Items in the arrangement with the mouse to build my song and Reaper is playing the arrangement the MIDI notes in the moving items are played when crossing the play cursor. Is there a way to mute items while moving them? Thanks!

nope, items currently being click-dragged by the mouse will play where they lay. the idea of "ghosting" items/razor edits that are currently being click-dragged got a pretty firm no several years back, if i am remembering the exchange correctly

Is there a way we can have the entire MIDI item muted when we drag it for a move? That's annoys me to when I'm dragging something especially a drum track. You're playing a song and you're copying the verse drum track to other verses and as you cross the play cursor you hear a crash of cymbals and toms and kicks and snares. It's quite jarring

having the track mute/unmute might be problematic, as the unmuting would result in MIDI notes voicing at unmute position rather than noteon position. you'd end up with, for example, cymbal crashes lurching into playback where they don't belong.

imo this request is only truly implemented by invisibly auto-muting any items (midi, audio, automation) that are held "in hand" and unmuting them when the click is released. you'd still potentially get notes coming into voice at click-release, but that's unavoidable and way better than the current "drummer falling down the stairs" sound you get when dragging drum items through the play cursor

Yeah I'm talking about muting the MIDI item on drag. Surely one of the gurus in this channel can come up with a way to do that

As far as I'm aware this isn't something that's user scriptable, unless there's a way to get the mouse 'clicked' state from the API, like imGui_isMouseDown() but for Reaper itself

Ok, thanks. That's an old request and I participated in this thread already.
