Default Looking for simple/minimal black or dark theme

I spent some time today looking for other REAPER themes but none of them were a good fit for me. The dark ones I found were also too intense on the mixer screen trying to look like an analog console or spaceship.

I'm mostly OK with the latest default theme but I wonder if I can darken the background of the arrange window where the grid is.

If you have a suggest for a nice and simple darker theme, please share.

Thank you.

You can do this rather quick with the theme editor. You can find it in the actions window, search for "theme development" or look for the action-ID 41930 and open it.
Scroll down a bit and you'll find s.th. like "background color of track with even/odd numbers". Sorry, don't know the exact english term, cause I use the german translation.

Mmh - maybe my mod in my signature suits your needs a bit .

Thanks, I didn't even know where the user editable theme settings where. I actually had your Default Dark theme installed but I"m looking for something in between normal default and your dark default.

Thanks!

I am glad sombody uses it!
In the theme editor you can change a lot of color settings if you wish.
There's another helpful action called "Element-Finder" with the ID 40690. This can show you the colors used e.g. for windows-backgrounds.
Besides that themes consist of png-grafics that have to be edited in s.th. like Photoshop. (The track- and mixerpanels for example)

I don't know if you are interested in that but in this part of the forum you're at the right place to find answers.

Btw, I've seen you are on OS X, does the Default Dark work there as expected? I have no possibility to test in on other OSs. You could do my a huge favour by PM me a screenshot if it's not too much of a hassle.

Greetings!

I suppose this is a bit far away from the default -- it's a darkened WT Imperial theme with a few other tweaks -- but if you think it might suit you I can toss it up on Stash.

I still haven't found a great dark/black theme.

Are there any possibly newer options anybody is aware?

In general, I like the default look of REAPER and I don't need a theme that looks really fancy or like an API.

I would just like a darker/inverted version of the default 5.0 theme. If possible, one that makes the header bar of things like the floating transport window not be blindingly white.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Justin

I've been using CrimsonMerry's Fusion mod recently. https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/1653/Fusion_RJ%20V1.2 - Nicely muted and easy on the eye

So far I like this one best.

If anybody would be willing to make some tweaks so that the background of the fields in the item properties were a shade less bright, the top header of floating windows was also darker (the top bar of the floating transport window kills my eyes), and could put the FX blend knob for FX back to default, I'd be willing to make a donation.

Also, in the floating FX Chain window, the left column where the plugins are listed is pretty blindingly white. When I go to load new plugins, that looks great, but the actual FX chain window has a lot of bright white.

Soon other small things come up but overall I like this one more. I work in a dark environment so I like to dial things back as much as possible. WaveLab dark theme is a good example of what works well here.

Thanks in advance.

Also, the "Take Media Source" text is mysteriously very faint which is kind of a deal-breaker I guess:

Back to the default theme for now.

This is pretty dark and minimalistic. It is my tweak to the FRXST theme.

MRMJP,
If you are finding even parts of the Commala 5 Dark theme too bright that screams of monitor calibration issues. IOW you probably haven't done any at all, or have setting way too bright and gaudy.

Commala 5 Dark theme is a nicely muted theme.

You said: "the top bar of the floating transport window kills my eyes"

Calibrate your screen. Bring down brightness, a lot. On my screen I have brightness at around 30%. Some even look right way down at 20% brightness. Do it through calibration though.

If you can DM me a link on this forum to it that'd be great.

Thanks.

I don't normally use Reaper "media item properties" function.

I just checked for you. If I drop in media "Take media source" is not greyed out for me. Maybe there is a reason for this with your file and settings for you here?
FWIW the "length" & "fade" fields are greyed out until ticking "section" box, so you can edit them.

Yeah. Possibly the best one of seen yet. For some reason it makes all my marker and region name fonts smaller.

Oh yeah you need to download and install the fonts, also might need additional configuration if you're on a windows machine since it was designed on a mac

I really like how you modded this theme. I'm running with something similar (a tweaked default v5 theme) but I like the look of this one quite a bit more.

Would you mind sharing it? Completely understand if you'd be uncomfortable sharing a modded version of another persons theme, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Wow, this one is excellent as well! I would super appreciate an upload of this if it's not too much trouble. All good if not, no worries.

The themes that fit the OP's description as far as i know are the following...

VGS Dark https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/2255/VGS_Dark.zip

Nitrogen https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/1987/NitrogenPack.zip

Realax https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/1067/R...ReaperThemeZip

and INQUASAR Dark Matter https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/2115/I...ReaperThemeZip

And I have my own edits of those themes in the link below

Hi.

Unfortunately the theme no longer exists in that state and I've moved on from it, so unable to share I'm afraid.

I don't remember it being too difficult to modify though, so if you get hold of the original FRXST theme, you should be able to get something similar fairly easily.

Ah, all good! I think I'll be sticking with my modified Default v5 theme for now for larger hybrid/orchestral projects. Keen to see what happens with the v6 theme!
