Default Using the AP 2496 soundcard in Reaper

I strangely have the Audiophile 2496 so that if I select it as the soundcard in Reaper, then I can record on a microphone. I can record and it's clearly registering sound on the sound meter. But to actually play it back, and also to play back any midi tracks, I have to switch back to my old Sigma Tel/ASIO4ALL soundcard/driver. (And the soundmeter only registers that there's any sound there then.)

To summarize: for audio I can only record on the one, and only playback with the other.

Midi only works with SigmaTel/ASIO4ALL.

I don't have anything hooked up to the output of the AP 2496... but I don't think that's the problem. As still the soundmeters should register something is being played. And I would think I should just be able to output from the computer output port to my speakers anyway.

I have midi hooked up through a USB m-audio uno midisport. I'm guessing I'll have to get rid of the uno midisport and just run both through the 2496? (That's not something I'd waste anyone's time asking if I wasn't already asking about audio.)

Buy adapters so you can hook up you computer speakers to the 2496. The 2496 will work fine as a general game system card so you might as well disable the Sima Tel. Uninstall the ASIO4ALL and just use the Audiophile 2496 ASIO drivers directly. YOu will get better performace and sound quailty this way.

I think this is the cable you will need to do it.

Thanks so very much.

edit to add: Geez, that does sound a lot better than SigmaTel. Going to be even harder to mix it back to sounding good on crappy car speakers.
