Default Reaper Update won't run in Manjaro (Solved!)

I just updated from 6.38 to 6.43. I downloaded, extracted, and ran the install script in the terminal. It was working before, but now when I click on the icon in the application launcher, nothing happens. If I right click on the icon and click on "edit application" it shows it as being updated. However, the Add/Remove Software app doesn't find it.

This is on Manjaro KDE Plasma, which is new to me. I have used Mint for years. Manjaro is interesting, but I have been thinking of switching back to Mint. Not quite ready to do that, however.

Any ideas what to do?

I have no problems with installing and updating on Manjaro.
Reaper is installed default in /opt/REAPER.
Check your install path.

Reaper is not standard package thus you dont see him in package manager.
uninstall script is in install directory

Yes, that is where it is installed. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, and of course rebooting. It just doesn't run any more.

You did download the one with the big green button on the download page? With all the versions there, it's easy to click the wrong one, and since the installer is just a script, it will install but not run if it's one of the other downloads.

Anyway, Manjaro XFCE here and REAPER 6.43 is running fine on my system.

What happens when you run reaper from the command line like this?

Code:
/opt/REAPER/reaper

Your intuition was right. I downloaded the wrong file! It was not Manjaro's fault. Just user idiocy.

Manjaro was running fine until my wife bought me a new Widescreen Samsung monitor. Now sometimes it doesn't wake up after going to sleep. I suppose eventually I will solve that, but Manjaro has been an adventure compared to Mint, which never caused any problem at all. Of course I was running Mint on six year old hardware, whereas this current Manjaro installation is pretty cutting edge.

Thanks!

I've done it before, which is why I thought it might be that. Now I always think "Green Button" when downloading a new version.

Might go into power management and on the Security tab set it to never lock the session and see if anything changes.

Then I'd try disabling stuff on the Display tab, like the "switch off" and "put to sleep after" options.

Here's another strong possibility. Your monitor might be turning itself off after so many minutes of inactivity, which is different than the computer controlling it. I use an HDTV and if I allowed screen blanking, my HDTV monitor will power itself off and requires me to use its remote to power it back up.

Why not just use the AUR package? It's updated quickly so it's much easier to start up to date.

I didn't know it was in AUR. I did a search in the Add/Remove app but nothing came up. I do have AUR turned on.

Thanks

Not sure why you wouldn't see it but you could always install an aur helper like yay or paru and just do:

paru reaper-bin
