Setting envelope height from API is still bugged.

FR: Value Fades on AIs

Why? To prevent clicks caused by value jumps.

In theory, you could zoom in and draw a fade in each AI:

But it presents two problems:

1) The value on the edge of the AI will not always match the surrounding envelope value and would have to be manually adjusted

2) Looping an AI also loops the fades

(yes, it could be stretched instead of looped, but Problem #1 above still persists)

Ideally the fade would be saved with the *.ReaperAutoItem file.

Thanks

Thanks devs! Loads of good stuff there!

And YES, using the fade handles area as a way to choose how long it should take to integrate the two envelopes would be super powerful!

That's quite overwhelming!

The API stuff looks new, could someone please annotate that list to emphasise post pre2a changes (less the 5.34 release). Thank you.

I'm getting lost...

Edit1: AI Properties, "Amplitude" >100% seems to do nothing.

Edit2: Thank you for the AI envelope point tooltips fix -seems to work this end now.

Edit3: Spectrogram seems not to work for me -toggle states change in the actions list, "Peaks display setting" changes view on running actions, but normal peaks shown. Antbody confirm, or just my install?

Is nobody else seeing peculiarities here?

Edit: after a few restarts and peak rebuilds it seems to have settled down, but it didn't seem to follow any logic.

The frequency bounds on spectral edits seem quite "lumpy" -is this a diplay issue only?

This was apparent on area mutes (here) and area solos.

It's not a bug, just a bit as FR: AI doesn't extend scrollbar's zone of view, it works only with other types items. Could it behave like all the other item types?

+ MIDI editor: allow absolute MIDI CC control of swing

MAIN: Adjust Swing Grid has a very sluggish update in the Midi Editor compared to the midi editor action to adjust swing grid. any way that could be tightened up? EDIT: reason being, i use a single screen with the midi editor fullscreened, so using that CC makes it very difficult to dial in the proper swing percent.

furthermore, i only use positive swing percentages, so it would be great to be able to define cc x range 0-127 to swing positive range 0-100 for resolution reasons, rather than using midi js fx to limit my cc range from 64-127, resulting in lower resolution. the way it currently stands, from -100 to 100, only having 128 steps results in percentage jumps.

you just answered 1/2 of my signature FR control swing/strength via CC via a combo of the above feature used in mainscreen + "Set Midi Input Quantize to grid" so thanks for that. i still hope to see CC for quantize strength, as well, those 2 features assigned to some faders will get REAPER up to speed with the MPC series in that respect.

thanks!!

That's a preview issue, yes -- though it also depends on the FFT size used, if you use a small FFT size it will behave similarly.

With spectrogram enabled, the .reapeaks file is used for spectrogram data if your view is less than about 40 pixels/second (because realtime calculation would be far too slow).

.reapeaks files are not rebuilt with spectrogram information unless you manually rebuild peaks while spectrograms are enabled.

So, to avoid this confusion, we could either:
  • force rebuild of peaks that lack spectrogram information when turning on spectrogram (per-item spectrogram has this behavior, but the global option does not because it may be undesirable).
  • draw a "spectrogram not available at this zoom level -- zoom in or rebuild peaks" message on items that meet this criteria

The right-most edge envelope point on an AI is not affected by drawing when obeying snap

Can this be made to draw on whichever grid line is closest to mouse cursor, rather than whichever grid line is left of mouse cursor?

Also we should be able to freehand draw continously between AI and regular envelope lanes...

Right now if you start freehand drawing outside of AI and you continue going through AI while drawing, nothing gets written in AI. This is something I don't think anyone will expect to happen... I would expect it for my freehanding to be written both in the lane AND continue into the AI.

Also it's VERY weird that envelope lane data is separate from AI data... so if you remove that AI you just freehanded across (but nothing got written to it), you get what you drew BEHIND the AI... so weird and unexpected.

I think this paradigm needs to completely change.

I'd like to hear some opinions about this (and reasoning behind this behavior from the devs, if possible!)...

Thank you, it didn't seem to be affecting the sound, only the visuals. I didn't think about FFT size here, I'll have a play with this.

  • draw a "spectrogram not available at this zoom level -- zoom in or rebuild peaks" message on items that meet this criteria

That was crucial info ^^ -I may not have had the view option on while rebuilding the peaks -obvious really, but I may have missed it.

The message version might help users understand what's going on here, although I would think some users with faster machines would like the force rebuild version maybe as a Prefs option.

Is it possible to give some indication of the existence of spectral edits in an item when in a non-spectrogram peak mode please? Something unobtrusive similar to the item FX icon (and other Media item buttons) -optional, and maybe clicking will switch spectro peak on to show the edits? This would be very useful to find these edits in a large project, especilly if their use there was sparse.

Still holding a torch for a high-res option

Edit: I'm not seeing any difference in display when changing FFT size, even after peak rebuilds. Am I misunderstanding something here?

Thanks for the reports. I can't seem to reproduce either of those bugs though. What OS is this? Could you go to Help/About and report the exact version and build number there?

The reasoning behind any particular mouse edit affecting either an automation item or the underlying envelope, but not both, is that since automation items may be pooled, editing envelopes around automation items would otherwise create an opportunity to unintentionally affect other parts of the project.

The ability to edit the envelope behind an automation item is just a bug.

The FFT size only affects the audio processing -- if you glue you can see the results it produces.

1. Insert an AI. Add some(at least one) points above/below the initial lane.
2. Copy/paste it at the same position(at least once) as the original one, so there will be two(or more) overlapping AI's.
3. Make the envelope much higher.
4. Try to create new point using shift.
Point can't be created above or below the AI's lane. This behaviour exists on all the overlapping AI's except the first one(at the top).

Btw, could we get spoilers on forum and better font (like one, which was for a short time before).

Ah, thank you. I did rather simplistically presume it was just vanilla dynamic EQ algorithms being driven by the spectral edit box and control parameters.

Thanks for the info! I understand the idea now.

Also glad I found a bug - it WAS pretty weird to me that it's supposed to work like that. So glad that's not the case

Default AI BUG & AI FR

Justin or schwa,

First a little FR, please, please add drag and drop for AIs, this is so that they can be used with SWS Resources which would allow binding to shortcut keys or MIDI.

Nothing would need to be done on the SWS side because it already supports user defined file types in the .ini file. In fact I have a Resources folder setup with a few AIs already loaded into slots just waiting for drag n drop-ability. This would make auditioning AIs a rapid and much more pleasing experience.

----

Onto the AI bug...

1) Create an AI and add a parametric lfo with a freq. of about 7 or so.
2) Split the AI somewhere in the middle.
3) Remove from pool.
4) Click on rightmost item and open properities reassign an lfo and increase the freq. a bit.
5) Now adjust the 'Amp Skew' to 100% then to -100% and you should notice that the left portion of the item does not taper all the way.
6) Try the same with the leftmost item and you'll notice the same bug except it's the right portion that does'nt taper all the way.

Thank you guys!

Edit: Found another related bug.
Try increasing the lfo Play rate on one of the split Ais that has it's Amp. skew set to full max or min and you should notice the AI points are not duplicating correctly compared to a non-split AI.

The spectral editing will be linear-phase, given that it's FFT based, right?

Media explorer would be good for this maybe as track templates can also be dragged and dropped from there too

I still dont know what these Envelopes gives us, better visual view? Better automation per paraeter, and can i also choose what i see(autmation) Is now easier to manage with automation ,what are the gains of using these over just automation ?

Thanks

Better organization and editability (since you can pool automation items, you can edit the same automation over multiple parameters or even tracks).

Default Question

Devs,

I was just playing around with the new AI API, really cool by the way, however I was a little bummed to find that the LFO parameters were not included.
Are you planning on adding them at some point?
...heck maybe you could consider an API for loading AIs by their saved name?

I know loading of AIs via API would accomplish the same task as my FR from previous post except I suppose the drag-n-drop option would be a little more user friendly for non-scripters. I guess if I had to choose, I'd go with the API option just because it could be way more flexible/powerful, but I'd be happy either way.
