Default How to MIDI learn to track volume

Hello, how do I link a knob on my keyboard to the volume of a track in REAPER without using ReaLearn? Can it be done with ReaControlMIDI? I was able to change the MIDI volume, but not the track volume itself. Thank you.

As I understand it, you have to actually go into the Action List and find the appropriate action to change the volume of that track and assign the CC to it in there.

You can't link it to a specific track by name without ReaLearn. You can link it to a track by number in the actions list.

Ok, I see. Then if you add a track above it and the number changes you lose the mapping? There's no other way without ReaLearn? Strange, but ok. Thank you.

Yes I thought so too. But you can put a mapped ReaLearn into a template, so you only have to do it once.

I find it simpler in most cases to just assign a fader to volume for selected track. If you have an encoder on your controller, you can assign it to "go to track" (rel 3); then you can control the selected track from the same device. That's what I do. In fact I have all track controls set up this way including EQ (you can define default mappings for plugins that only work when the track is selected), so my controller is basically a channel strip for the selected track.

Yeah, that's what I ended up deciding to do (use the set volume for selected track). That's a great tip regarding the go to track action, I will try that next. Thank you.
