Hi

From the "purchase" page:-

Quote:
A new license includes free upgrades through REAPER version 6.99. There is only one version of REAPER. The license price depends on how you use it.

I'd say well over a year... I bought into REAPER around 5.4, I think, and that was a couple of years ago.

At sixty bucks I'd say that REAPER is the best value for money DAW on the planet. I suppose there may be free ones, like Cakewalk by Bandlab, for instance, but even as an ex SONAR user I am well happy with REAPER, so I'd rather pay.

I really appreciate that,synkrotron.
Thanks, and no problem

Wow. Thanks for that. Usually there has to be a long tedious pointless discussion about how if you buy at -this- point in the cycle you get -2- version upgrades included but if you buy at -that- point in the cycle you only get 1 full version upgrade plus whatever updates occur until the new version. But you just seem to get it. Reaper's the best value in the game no matter when you buy.

And yah, you'll be good for a year lol. I think we've been on 5.9x for a year.

V6 must be a game changer, and will of course be a huge payday for them, but hey it'll be released when it's good and ready, and in the meantime, seemingly endless upgrades. I truly think Cockos doesn't care about anything but making good software. And, y'know, family and puppies and 'Merica, but mostly just making good software.

What many people do not understand also is that the version up to that
2 edition of updates you are permitted, is that Reaper is yours for life if
you do no9t update any further.

You can, but when you buy it. It is possible to download any "outdated" version and use it with your license, which is compatible with this version.

At the current rate, a license can last several years. I purchased a license September 2015 (at version 5.01), and it will still be valid until 6.99. We're not even at version 6 yet and it's been 4 years.

I did something similar to you, purchasing my first license at around version 3.78. Version 4.0 happened shortly afterward but it was still another 4 years before I had to buy a new license (at version 5.0). I certainly don't regret it.

My most recent purchase was version 4 around 5 years ago, and I'm still good at 5.9xx after several hundred updates. I'll have to purchase again at version 6, but expect that to last at least another 4 or 5 years with several hundred more updates.

I should also mention that after each of those hundreds of updates, including betas, I've never had an issue of loading any previous project, or any serious issue at all.

I purchased in the middle 4's I think so I'm good until v6 hits. I can't really tell how long I've used it because I've changed computers and now it only shows me how long I've used it on this machine.

Oh, and welcome aboard!

I'm still using my trial version of REAPER. I'm long over due to purchase it. But I have a question. I heard somewhere that you have to buy a new license every time a new version of REAPER is released. I don't mean every time there's an update. But, for example, right now we're in version 5, right? All the updates are numbered 5.1, 5.2, etc....So, all those are free updates. But when it gets to version 6, do we have to buy a new license? If so, I'll keep using the trial version until it gets to 6. If my info is wrong, I'll purchase it right away.

Thanx.

No, you are not "forced" to do anything.

If you buy a license today, you get all free upgrades for Reaper 5, and Reaper 6.

Reaper 7 probably won't be released until several years from now. If at that point you don't want to upgrade, then you get to keep the last version of Reaper 6 you have on your system, and you can keep using it until the day you die.

I'm on my third lic. I always happy to buy a new one... it means reaper is alive and well and that I get to support it in some very small way.

I bought into V4 in 2011. So my $60 investment to-date boils down to around $7.50 per year - or 2 cents a day... Outrageous!

Funny, even though i wasn't doing anything illegal or "wrong" by using the trial version, now that I bought it, I feel like a huge load has been lifted off my shoulders, strangely enough.

Thanx again.
Part of that feeling is probably because subconciously you felt you were betraying Cockos` trust in you by not having dongles or authorisation software in the first place. For decent humans, Justins business model is great. Sadly even with dishonest people able to use Reaper for free indefinitely, there are Still "CRACKED" VERSIONS OF REAPER OUT THERE!! Idiotic but true.

P.S. Well doen for paying up.

the beauty of Justin's business model is this, it's a free trial for 60 days. Then it is incredibly good value to buy a license. If you are still unsure or so broke you can't spare the $60 right now, keep using it, you will pay when you can afford it.

I bought in April of '13 ... still going on that purchase.

Over 6 years for $60. What is that, a pizza and a tank of fuel?

Awesome value.
