Outboard with Focusrite
I had asked about this a couple years ago when I first got Reaper. I had thought I had figured it out, but I don't think I did. So here goes round 2:
I have a Focusrite 18i20 and a Pultec. I have some other outboard I want to use, but lets focus on the Pultec for now.
I have Scarlett Mixcontrol 1.10, Reaper up to date, and a Pultec.
I know I need to use ReaInsert. But I can't tell if my problem is in Reaper or Focusrite? But at one point it seemed to be working, but I started getting feedback! So I am pretty sure that setup was wrong.
Does anyone here have a Focusrite (with the Mixcontrol software) that knows how to route audio out and back in to a Reaper channel? Or do you know of any videos that lays it out simple, from start to finish?
I figure if I can figure out how to use the Pultec, than everything else would hook up the same way. I am so frustrated I can't stand it.
I have "ADD" and it is pretty extreme. But it can also be like a super power as a musician. Or if I have a super thick Reaper manual, it can be nightmare.
Thank you for your time with this and all help is appreciated

I haven't used ReaInsert for a while, but I think routing it back to the source track would be wrong (feedback). Shouldn't the ReaInsert output be routed to a separate track?

Disable monitoring of the track and of the connected focusrite inputs (direct monitoring).
Maybe this is helpful though not quite the right interface??

You might be right. in fact, I believe so. That is probably one of the big problems I made! Thank you

Thanks again for the great find on that article. I hadn't seen that one before. Crazy Focusrite doesn't have their own forum.....

That's what ReaInsert does, takes a signal out of Reaper & then back to where it came from, so it will route it back to the same track, but you have to make sure you are using a hardware out that is different to your main output

Ah yeah, that rings a bell. I'll have to open an old project where I used it. I think I remember something about using a second track...ah, was it a send to another track?

OK, just checked, I had Track 1 with audio already on it, sending to Track 2 with ReaInsert on it, so that I could print the external FX by recording the output of Track 2.

you don't need track 2, necessarily. you could just have Reainsert on track 1 with the audio & have it set to record : output

Yes, but I hadn't realized until just now that "Monitor track media when recording" has to be ticked for that to work.

I've set up 2 buttons in my main toolbar as "online render mono"/"-stereo".
Based on time selection. No need for Monitoring or the like.
