Default Destructive recording

I'm not too sure if this is thread worthy but I can't seem to find much info that answer my question

Is it possible to record an effect into reaper

i.e. vst compression on a vocal

I remember achieving it in protools by setting up the input to an Aux with a compressor then routing its output to a rec ready track.

I'm currently limited in ASIO options and can't test it myself

Right click the track with the VSI on it. Choose one of the "stem render" options to do the trick. The rendered stem will then conatin the VST.
