Default double bass drum vs single bass drum

hello guys

I want to ask a drummer the limitations of a single bass drum apart from speed.

Can you play all double bass drum parts at slower speed on single bass drum?

I'm not a drummer but I've paid enough attention to the ones in my life...

The biggest limitation of only having one pedal on the kick drum is going to be speed. There are definitely drummers out there that can compete for speed on a single kick pedal compared to what some guys are capable of on a double....but those guys aren't common, and its just physically not possible for the fastest player on a single kick to match the fastest player on a double kick.

As far as the hi-hat, I think thats just going to be the drummers preference. There's no reason they wouldn't be able to rest their foot on the pedal (assuming they aren't using that foot for something else in the meantime) but they might not want to for whatever reason.

You only have the one drum, so you can't tune one differently.

Ahh that too, I was answering it in regards to double kicks on a single drum. With two actual drums vs one there's the whole slew of other stuff like you mentioned.
