Default peas, grapes, & brown sugar

EDIT: Peas, Grapes, & Sugar have been retired.

Current buttons are inspired by Stelz & Acoustic.
The UI folder comes with multiple sets of faders (as well as
colored button templates in case you want to get creative).
Pick whichever you prefer, and copy them into the main UI folder.

Another update to buttons & faders. Pics have been upgraded. All files are found in first post.

I've been enjoying learning about icons. It's quite a challenge creating shading and depth with only 16 x 16 pixels to work with, and it makes me appreciate the artistic talents of everyone who's contributed... neat what we can accomplish when we work as a team.

Hey, I don't want do disappoint you. But IMHO, your themes don't look good.

Neither the choice of colors nor the icons. Sorry

There are TOO many things I would say how to make it better... So I'd just say: make a new one.

Keep on doin' it!

Oh. I rather like the last one - crisp and clear I'd say, though I haven't actually downloaded it (enough already on my PC!).

Well stelzbock, its a matter of personal taste I guess. With the exception of the transport buttons, I like teej's icons the best of everything out there. As a matter of fact, I combined all of his with the Transport icons from PT1 and that is now my standard. Ya the color themes are not my first choice, but the endless possibilities of combinations are what makes this fun.

Thanks for your honest input, Stelzbock. I appreciate you taking time to respond.

I'd never messed with icons before, and it's been fun learning. But you're right, my themes aren't up to par with others offered here. I really should leave it to the pros.

Thanks for the nice comments, all. Like Dio, my eyes aren't what they used to be, so i focused on easy reading. And when Ken suggested the name Give Peas A Chance, it made me laugh. DAW work can be frustrating, and anything that makes ya laugh during the process can't be a bad thing, right?

Shark Dressed Man.. haha.. yeah, a bit of a stretch, but i've seen shark on a menu before, and it's the only food i could think of that's dark grey.

Gregh,
I think i may have the old Peas version stashed someplace. I'll see if i can find it for ya. I changed from a light to a dark strategy cause i thought the new buttons were easier to see on a dark background. Give me some time to look around.

tj

EDIT: Here ya go, Greg. I'm not sure if this is the version you were using or not... i've made a buncha changes to Peas over the past few weeks. But this is the only old version i kept. I don't remember for sure, but the toolbar buttons may have been black/grey at this point instead of yellow/grey.

I find these strangely alluring. I rather like them. They are somehow clean looking to me. Particularly Brown Sugar.

No, not at all!
1. As said before, this was my opinion. And my post gave this thread a little push. And some others like your themes.

2. Everyone starts somewhere. I told you what I think. And maby your next one will be better! Just compare some professional skins (not only from REAPER) with yours and try to find out, what makes the difference.

Thanks, Daniel. I appreciate the encouragement.

No prob, Stelz. I don't take any of this too seriously, and i certainly don't consider myself a graphics expert. Like i said, i've just been playing around and learning a bit.

I really like your avatar. The 'glass looking' layer overtop the icon really makes it sharp. I'd like to play with something like that, if i could.

Any chance i could convince you to send me a copy of that glass layer? I have access to PhotoShop & Gimp. If you can't, i understand. Just thought i could learn something from playing with it.

Oh! another icon update.. pics have been updated.

I've searched for it, but it's on my other PC... And yes, I made it with photoshop.

At first I tried to recreate these Apple look-like glass buttons.

But basically it's really simple:

1. Create a background. I chose these stripes, to improve the transparent look.
All of the other layers are partly transparent.

2. Create a basic shape, a dark blue e.g., and a shadow FX.

3. Clone the same shape, shrink it a just little bit, soften it and make it a little brigther color.

4. Create a new layer, choose a BIG brush an paint some of the white clouds at bottom section of the shape.

5. Add the main icon layer, like text

6. The last layer, the shining reflexion at the top: I've made a two new shapes, one with big and one with small rounded edges. then I cut both in half and used the big one for the top and the small edges for the bottom half. Out of this shape a created a selection and used a gradient white fill.

As far as I can remeber, that's it.

I hope it will help you!

Cheers, Jan

But you really should have! This is really necessary for creating nice buttons / icons as you saw in my example. I used a lot of transparent layers, and channels for creating shapes.

Try to recreate this Aqua-button and you will learn a lot.

Your next task will be: A reaper theme with Aqua-icons

Good luck

how difficult would it be to create the look that windows media player 11 has? I like the glossy blue buttons that light up when selected. I may give it a shot myself. Are buttons the only thing that can be changed using photoshop?

Ok, i'm doing something wrong with layers. I can create them ok, and the graphic looks right with all layers visible. But when i save the file, the resulting .ico graphic only displays the top layer.

I'm using Gimp.

I can Merge Visible Layers, and the resulting image shows all layers. But that can't be right cause i loose the ability to make changes later.

Gotta be something silly i'm doing. Ideas, anybody?

You need to "flatten" the image, well, not flatten it with the flatten command in the Gimp, but by right clicking each layer and select merge layer downwards or something. (It's been a while since I have used the good ol' Gimp ).

Note when saving to an icon file a icon in the icon file is created for each layer, so you must flatten/merge it to one layer.

Excellent! Thanks, loser. That's exactly what i was looking for. Now i can lower the opacity on the top layer, merge it down, and get a blending of the two.

That's what i was missing.

tj

EDIT: For what it's worth, i cleaned up the icons, added a bit better shading to some, and condensed optional buttons/faders into single UI folder. All 4 themes are updated as well.

Me too. I read the title, thought it was going to be a brown, purple, and pea-green color scheme, and thought it would be gross, but I like them quite a bit. Very clear and functional.

thanks, guys... i'm glad you like them.

Since Justin has changed the way track colors work, i redid Shark. Picture and theme file in post #1 have been replaced. Not sure if i'll mess with updating the others or not. Guess it depends on how much spare time i have.

Oh! The UI folder contains several different faders and toolbar buttons in both white & gold, so you can take your pick.

Anyway, Shark is updated if anyone is interested.

Had some time over the weekend to update the other themes. I like the changes Justin made to how colors are applied to the main windows... especially custom colors on track names. Very nice!

I love your icons.
Been using them for a while now and I don't think I'll change.

Could you do a standard meter display(green to yellow to red)for these themes?I don't like one colour meters.

Sure thing, smasha.. here's how you can change your version. It's easy.

Open Color Theme settings:
- Pick the color theme you want to modify
- Open Preferences (Ctrl-P)
- Move to the Color Theme window
- Scroll down to VU Meter section (about 3/4 of the way down)

Select colors:
- Click on VU Meter Clip Indicator (this opens a color palette)
- Select the color you want to use (Red)
- Click OK
- Repeat for the other 4 meter sections

Based on your comment, I'd suggest Red, Yellow, Green, Dark Green, and Black.

Save Theme:
- Click Save Theme button
- Verify theme name or type a new name
- Click Save button

Hope this helps.

I did the OS X button look on my theme (http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3699). If someone wants a png of a button to play with with layers and all that, let me know.

EDIT: Meh, here is a link to one. Have fun playing.

whoa! Bubba, that's gorgeous!

Thanks, i've DL'd it and will play with it over the next few days.

Then again, with only 16x16 to work with, not sure how much i can add to my buttons. Guess i've gotten used to the simple look.

But man, that's pretty!

I haven't checked in on this thread since early in the development, but Teej, this has come a long way. I have switched to Shark Dressed and those buttons are fab.

cool. thanks, guys.

the latest version of this theme uses some of the Klingon button shapes. not sure that's wise, now that there's a full-blown Klingon theme... hafta ponder that one a bit.
