Default How to record JS in Cubase with Audigy?

Hi Folks,
Upon my first serious attempt at recording with JS using Cubase Sx and my Audigy 2 soundcard I got stumped on how to record the output of JS. I can send output to the wave outs (of which there are many but the only way to record from those also means that you end up recording all sounds playing at that time (what you hear, basically). So can JS be routed in alternative way so that it's output is seen as a discrete input to cubase? Any chance of a VST plugin (or directX) version of JS? Not likely I suppose, but would at least place JS against stuff like Amplitube as a credible way recording, then changing the sound you used to make the recording.

Btw, with the latest version of JS CPU usage has gone done enough for me to record and use JS at the same time on my Athlon XP1900+ (some minor hiccups though). The new Distort-Fuzz distortion is just what I needed. Now all I need is an all in one 3 band eq with Low med & high freq sliders and I've got a proper metaaal stomp box (although adding the param eq 3 times works just as well).

Anyone seeking a good metal sound should check out the Line 6 Amp models from the User Resources, only a few are crisp enough for the job, 8c Tiny Tweed is a good one (unless you like things grungy sounding, rather than thrashy, in which case loads of them are good).

Default This might help

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar0...ubasenotes.htm I would think with the VST Connections in conjuncture with the 2chan output effect in JS would be a viable work around until...

Set up the 2chan output to route the signal to rear speakers and then create a vst connection using the rear speakers as an input. then make sure that you out put all tracks excluding the track with this new connection to the front speakers.
Now I am not sure that this will work for you as I switched from Cubase to Sonar before they included the Vst Connections window. I hope this helps you and thanks for the Zappa compliment.

Good answer, thanks for that - I'll give it a whirl and report back with how I get on.

The DirectX plug-in is part way done, in a working state no less!

I'm going to look at the VST SDK shortly.

Cool! Give a quick whirl under Cubase and the window shows up fine but won't respond to keyboard events, so can't load any effects.

Off on holiday for a few days but will give this further investigation in a week or so.

Either VST or DirectX is pretty useful for a lot of people, Cubase does both. It would be nice if there was also a method for developers to hook into gui events and effects parameters - probably a big job but it would be nice to be able to build your own front end for JS with knobs and sliders etc. Any plans for offer such a thing?
